The ufology Group UFO Research New South Wales recorded that in 1968 in Smithfield, New South Wales, Australia, a 21-year old woman was walking home across a small park when she saw an object about 100 meters away, moving at low speed.
Arriving home, she got out a telescope and saw it as a disc with a square window on the top portion, and a black figure with arms outstretched, silhouetted by yellow light, in this window.
One late version indicates that the witness was a machinist, a man, and that on the underneath of the craft were blue and orange pulsating lights rotating in an anti-clockwise direction.

[Other cases] In 1968, Smithfield NSW, a 21 year old machinist walking home from work, saw, whilst crossing a small park, upon looking up, a very unusual object in the sky which was very close to him - estimated at 200-500 feet away. The witness ran quickly home and got out his telescope and, looking through it, saw the object. It was saucer shaped. On the top half there was a squarish window at which stood a blackish figure silhouetted by yellow light with both arms outstretched on the window sill. On the underneath of the craft were blue and orange pulsating lights rotating in an anti-clockwise direction. [Other cases] |
[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:
Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that Smithfield, New South Wales Australia, in 1968, at night, a young woman walking home across a small park saw an object moving at slow speed nearby. Arriving home she took out a telescope and was able to see that it was a disc with a square window on the top. In the window she watched a black figure with its arms outstretched surrounded by a yellow light.
Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Keith Basterfield.
It would have been enough to have the information on whether this craft at 100 meters was noisy or not not have a way to exclude that it could have been an helicopter. Just because this essential information is missing, it could have been one.
