Porto Rican ufologist Jorge Martin apparently reported in his bulletin that in Rio Hato, Panama, on Summer 1965, at sundown, during a spate of "mysterious animal killings" in the area, Eddie Melvin and several other locals stayed up one night hidden behind the darkened windows of the house and kept watch on the nearby woods.
Soon they saw a bizarre creature step out of the woods. It was 4-feet tall, covered in dark stringy hair. Its head was shaped like a large oval, with a pointy chin, with huge glowing red almond shaped eyes. It seemed to have what appeared to be fangs protruding from its mouth. It walked on two muscular legs that terminated in claw-like feet. It had two small thin arms, terminating in four-fingered hands with powerful looking claws. It had a peculiar feature described as some kind of a crest running down its back. This sharp crest appeared to be fluorescent, giving off multicolored hues. The creature at one point lifted its arms revealing a web-like membrane under them.
Suddenly it apparently sensed their presence and ran into the woods rapidly disappearing from sight.

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Rio Hato, Panama, on Summer 1965, at sundown, during a spate of mysterious animal killings in the area, the main witness, Eddie Melvin and several other locals stayed up one night hidden behind the darkened windows of the house and kept watch on the nearby woods. Soon they saw a bizarre creature step out of the woods. The creature was described as being 4-feet tall, covered in dark stringy hair. Its head was shaped like a large oval, with a pointy chin, with huge glowing red almond shaped eyes. It seemed to have what appeared to be fangs protruding from its mouth. If one believed Jorge Martin, there would be UFOs, aliens, alien bases, and the unescapable "Chupacabras", in all places of Central America; unfortunately, his narratives are most of the time vague enough to be unverifiable, he is the only one to propose them - if one does not count the many "arranged" copies in a more "credible" tone on Internet - no independent confirmation seems to exist and no counter-investigation is possible on these stories with no named witnesses, no precise date and not even a precise location.
On a UFO and "contactees" blog, appeared an entry from one "Leenesa", mentioning an Eddie Melvin who was "in Puerto Rico researching the chupacabra" [sic, Chupacabras] around 1996 and who was a member of a "UFOCCI" group in Seattle of one Terry Burris.
(See: ufoexperiences.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html as of May 14, 2008).
There are several sketched circulating on the Internet of alleged "chupacabras" almost perfectly corresponding to the description in this case; this one is dated 1995 and is different only by the mention of 3 fingers instead of 4. Nothing enables me up to now to determine if these resemblances are simply copycat by hoaxsters or valid concordant descriptions. |
This one appeared to illustrate the Wikipedia entry on "chupacabras." |
