Australian ufologist Keith Basterfield personally reports that during a period of general UFO activity, on March 12, 1959, in Purnong Landing, South Australia, at night, Kim Marks, age 6, was preparing for bed, when he claimed he saw a "man" in a red jacket and trousers, with white trimmings inside his bedroom.

The man was about 1.50 meters tall, 2 meters in later sources, and crimson faced.

The boy said he watched for a minute and a half while the dog present did not react.

Hours later, the family reportedly saw something said to be a "multicoloured luminous object" close to their property.

Keith Basterfield indicates that a humanoid was observed during a period of general UFO activity on March 12, 1959, in Purnong Landing, South Australia, at night, by Kim Marks, age 6, who was preparing for bed when he claimed he saw a "man" in a red jacket and trousers, with white trimmings inside his bedroom. The man was about 150 centimeters tall and crimson faced. The boy said he watched for a minute and a half while the dog present did not react.

Keith Basterfield indicates that he is the source for the report.

The Belgian ufologist indicates that on March 12, 1959, in Australia, in Urnong [sic] Landing, South Australia, in the evening, the young Kim Marks, aged 6, was getting ready to go to bed when he told his parents that a man dressed in a jacket and red trousers with white trimmings was in his bedroom. The man was approximately 150 centimeters, the face was crimson red. The child and this entity looked at each other during more than one minute in silence. The dog who accompanied the child had no particular reaction.

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Purnong Landing, South Australia, on March 12, 1959, at night, 6-year old Kim Marks was preparing for bed when he saw a 5ft man, with a crimson face, wearing a red jacket and trousers with white trimmings. He was visible for a minute and a half. Kim's dog did not react. A few hours later, a multi-colored luminous object was seen close to the Marks property.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Keith Basterfield and Humcat 1959-4.

Donald Johnson indicates that on March 12, 1959, by night, 6-year-old Kim Marks of Purnong Landing, South Australia was preparing for bed when he saw a five foot tall man with a crimson face, wearing a red jacket and trousers with white trimmings. He was visible for a minute and a half. Kim's dog did not react. A few hours later, a multi-colored luminous UFO was seen close to the Marks property.

The website indicates that a case of human-looking alien occurred on March 12, 1959, in Purnong Landing, South Australia, when Kim Marks, aged 6, was preparing for bed and claimed he saw a "man" in a red jacket and trousers with white trimmings inside his bedroom.

The man was about 150 centimeters tall, crimson faced. The boy said he watched for a minute and a half while the dog which was present did not react.

The source is indicated as Keith Basterfield.

Points to consider:

It is rather amazing that a story by a 6 year old child can constitute a case of close encounter of the thirs kind, the more so as he obviously does not describe an extraterrestrial being but a man in earthly clothes. It would have been essential to check whether the child was already in bed or not, in order to be certain that it was not a completely ordinary child's nightmare, interpreted as something else by the parents simply because they apparently saw some light in the sky which they could not explain.

Moreover, a man in red clothes with white trimmings and a reddish face is almost a description of Santa Claus.

Finally, the dog who did not react is a negative witness as of the reality of the character.
