FALL 1948, LINEVILLE, ALABAMA, USA, A WOMAN:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

In 1973, a newspaper in Alabama is said to have reported that a woman who did not want to tell her name claimed that in the fall of 1948, in Lineville, Alabama, she was getting water from the well when she saw a luminous round object landing in a nearby corn field.

She told that two bearded men with long hair and wearing long dresses came out, that one of them approached and told her in English with some accent that she should not be afraid, that no harm would be made to her if she cooperates and answers some questions.

There allegedly was a half hour of conversation of a half hour, then the woman fled to her house, but one of the two men stood in the door. The two men then resinstated their craft; which flew away.

The woman said that there was a flattened and burned area in the field and that she did not want to tell the story and did it only because she is forced to.

Narratives:

[Ref. bh1:] ROBERT E. BARTHOLOMEW AND GEORGE S. HOWARD:

The authors indicate that in 1948, in Lineville, Alabama, a woman who remained anonymous was drawing water from a well, when she saw a bright round object land in a nearby cornfield.

Two men with long hair and beards and wearing long robes came out, and one approached and told her in accented English that she should not be afraid, that no harm would be done to her if she would cooperate and answer some questions.

After some 30 minutes of conversation, the woman ran into her house, but the other being stood in the doorway. The two beings then reentered the craft and it flew off.

The authors indicate that the source is the newspaper Alabama Times, for March 25, 1973.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Lineville, Alabama, on Fall 1948, in the morning, a woman who wished to remain anonymous was drawing water from a well when a round, luminous ball landed in an adjacent cornfield.

Two longhaired, bearded men got out, wearing long robes with a sash around the middle, and one of them came up and spoke to her in accented English. "He told her not to be afraid, and assured her she would not be harmed if she would cooperate and answer some simple questions."

After about half an hour's conversation, she fled into the house, where the second humanoid was standing in the doorway; they left, and she saw the UFO ascend.

In the cornfield was a flattened and scorched area. The witness "only spoke of the incident when forced to do so."

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is George Butler, Beyond Reality 9/73.

Points to consider:

The story of the "contactee" type is very likely to be nothing more of the tale from a woman to a newspaperman, with no investigation.

To note: the total lack of imagination, with the visitors being human, the UFO undescribed, the 30 minutes conversation about unreported topics, the contradiction between listening to them for 30 minutes before running away, the refusal to give a name, the shoddy excuse of being "forced" by reason unknown to talk about it, the report 25 years after the alleged encounter etc.
