On November 21, 2004, someone reported via the web to the National UFO Reporting Center that on June 15, 1947, he observed an "alien hawk" for about one hour in Gackle, in North Dakota, USA.
The witness claimed he was with his brother, hunting gophers on their family farm, when they happened to look up and saw a hawk hovering directly over them, at only about 20 feet above them.
It did not move at all, in a totally un-natural manner, as hawks flying thermals fly in circles.
The witness said he fired a one shot from a .22 rifle, and the hawk did not move at all. Then, with his brother, they both shot dozens of shots until they were out of ammo. The hawk did not move except that it seemed to get almost imperceptually higher.
They continued to observe the "hawk" until it disappeared from sight directly above them; which took about an hour. In that hour, the hawk did not turn, did not flap its wings, and did not move in any direction except up.

Sighting ReportOccurred : 6/15/1947 14:00 (Entered as : 06/15/1947 14:00) My brother and I were hunting gophers on our family farm. We happened to look up and saw a hawk hovering directly over us. It was only about 20 feet above us, and what was unusual, it did not move at all. This is totally un-natural. Normal flight for a hawk flying thermals is to fly in circles. I fired a one shot from a .22 rifle. The hawk did not move at all. Then we both shot dozens of shots until we were out of ammo. The hawk did not move except it seemed almost imperceptually higher. We continued to abserve [sic, "observe"] the "hawk" until it disapeared [sic] from sight directly above us. This took about an hour. In that hour the hawk did not turn, did not flap it's wings, and did not move in any direction except up. ((NUFORC Note: Date is approximate. PD)) |
[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:
Albert Rosales indicates that in Gackle, North Dakota, on June 15, 1947, at 1400, two brothers were hunting gophers in their farm when they suddenly happened to look up and saw what appeared to be a winged hawk-like figure hovering directly over them. It was only about 20 m above them, and what was unusual, it did not move at all. This is totally unnatural since the normal flight pattern for a hawk is to fly in circles. One of the men fired one shot from his .22 rifle. The "hawk" did not move at all. Then they both shot dozens of shots until they were out of ammo. The strange winged creature did not move except that it seemed almost imperceptibly higher. The brothers continued to observe the "hawk" until it disappeared from sight directly above them. The incident lasted for about an hour in which the "hawk" did not turn, did not nap its wings and did not move in any direction except up.

The description of the event is of such a high strangeness that I do not see any prosaic explanation. However, this is only a very late web report, without investigation; its credibility is unknown.
