1930, Beech Creek Road, Wayne County, Tennessee, USA, a man:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

According to Albert Rosales, in 1995, Alternate Perceptions magazine editor Brent Raynes apparently published a report saying that in Wayne County, Tennessee, in 1930, at night, "a man told his family of encountering several little men on Beech Creek Road. The little men had wrinkled faces and reddish complexions. Bright lights were also seen by the witness in the woods. The little men apparently chased the witness that ran hysterically and apparently passed out, later on finding himself lying on a field. Thankfully the little men and lights were long gone."

In 2016, Peter Rogerson gives a slightly different version, based on the same source:

"A man walking down Beech Creek Road from Hw13 heard a sound like a bullet whizzing past and then saw two small lights just above the ground ahead. These merged to be become a single pan sized light. He then heard a sound like a motor slowing down and then saw a brilliant light resembling a circular table by the roadside. Around this was a group of 8-10 dwarfs with reddish wizened faces, long noses and whiskers or beards. The man through his walking stick at the small figures and ran off. At some point he lost consciousness and woke up some time later at the foot of South Branch Hill."

Evaluation A folk story given a false precise date by either Raynes or Rosales?

Points to consider:

Alternate Perceptions magazine, apparently the primary source for this case, is "An alternative way to explore and explain the mysteries of our world." It is "Published since 1985, online since 2001" at http://www.apmagazine.info

There is no reason to say that the date would be "falsely precise", especially as "1930" is not a precise date. But it is possible that the date in the primary source is "around 1930" or "in the 1930s" rather than "1930". Albert Rosales, in cases where the date has this kind of approximation, does usually indicates "around 1930".

I am not very convinced that it would be a "folklore" story; it does not match folklore in the USA then, that of the "Jersey Devil" or "Leeds Devil", stories of discovery of "pygmy mummy" (Indian mummies), and because of the "Tarzan the ape-man" movie, stories of apes (often very real, escaped from circuses). This story is reported only in 1995 apparently, in those years, there is no "folklore" reported as stories of UFO occupants. There are, on the other hand, pure inventions.

This is where the problem lies with this case: there is no element of credibility. No witness name, no context, no information on the nature of the report. We are told that the witness was "a man", thus an adult in 1930. Who then reported this in 1995? Who and how?
