British "skeptical" ufologist Peter Rogerson noted in his INTCAT catalogue that in 1930, in the evening, in Iraja, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, two boys, Raymundo Carvalho, 10-year-old, and his friend Adelino, saw a ball of smoke in the cemetery and went to investigate but were unable to gain entrance.
On the way back in the direction of Madureira, they came across a clearing with mango trees. Adelino went to get a mango he had shot from the tree with his catapult, but on doing so, he encountered a being dressed in a one piece suit with webbed feet. The frightened boys ran off.
Rogerson notes that the source is "Boaventura 2015 p35" citing an investigation by himself and Walter L. Barbosa in 1987, noting that the investigators talked only to witness Raymundo.

Investigator Edison Boaventura Júnior was born in 1966 in Santos, Brazil and is a ufologist since 1981. He investigated hundreds of incidents involving abductions, missing individuals, landings and UFO sightings, essentially occurring in the north and south shores of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. He is the founder of the "Ufology Group of Guarujá" (GUG) He published books, appeared on TV and radio shows, was cited in magazines and newspapers articles in various countries.
He writes articles for the web portal Burn (Brazilian UFO Research Network, www.portalburn.com.br) where he holds the position of Field Research Director. He managed to get a wider number of official documents on the issue provided by the Aeronautical, Military, Marine, SNI (ABIN) and Civil and Military Police of Brazil.
He has a BA in Theology with post Religious Education, and also holds the position of Manager at the Bank of Brazil S/A.
Irajá is a district of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The primary source about the case seems to be Edison Boaventura Júnior's book [bb1], and I found no other ufological documentation about it except for [pr1].
I found nothing about the other investigator, Walter L. Barbosa.
The district of Madureira is now in the North of Rio de Janeiro. I found no obvious lake or river there and the sea is a bit distant; however, I do not exclude that the "being" said to be in a "one piece suit" and "with webbed feet" might have been a diver, not recognized as such because it would be a quite unusual figure back then for the boy. Of course, the whole story could have been invented.
