In the ufology magazine "Lumières Dans La Nuit 305 of 1990, Mr. César Locatelli, a witness of a CE3 in Champagnolles in 1986, was interviewed by Michel Morel-Seythoux and Joël Mesnard at his home in Ménétrux-en-Joux about his observation.
Locatelli told them on this occasion that he remembered a story in his early childhood about a Mr. Filippi, a lumberjack of Italian origin living in La Combe de Morbier, who used to go back every winter to Italy, because of the snow.
On these occasions he went to Berbenno, about 30 kms from Bergamo, in Lombardy, where the inhabitants had the habit of gathering in a stable for the evening in order to spare firewood.
During one of these evening gatherings, Filippi had willingly recalled that he had seen near Morbier "a big ball of glass, with people inside, at the height of pine trees tops", and that "you could not speak to them."
Sixty-five years later, César Locatelli still remembers this story, but he does not remember more details.
The investigators noted that Filippi, if still alive (in 1990), is certainly no longer young, since he had a son who, like César Locatelli, was born in 1918.

[Ref. sm2:] MICHEL MORE-SEYTHOUX AND JOEL MESNARD:
"A Big Glass Ball with people inside it..."During one of our conversation with him, César Locatelli described for us one of his early childhood memories. Round about the year 1926, a woodcutter named Filippi, of Italian origin, who lived at La Combe de Morbier, was in the habit of returning every winter to Italy, on account of the snow. On these occasions, he would go to Berbeno [sic], some 30 kms from Bergamo, in Lombardy, where the inhabitants had the custom of all gathering together in a stable for the evening, in order to save on firewood. During those evening gathering, Filippi willingly recalled that he had seen, near Morbier, "a big glass ball, with people inside it, at pine-tree height (30 m. from the ground), and that "you couldn't talk with them." Sixty-five years later, César Locatelli still remembers this story, but he recalls no more precise details than that. This man Filippi, if alive today, is unquestionably no longer young, since he had a son who - like César Locatelli - was born in 1918. |
[Ref. js1:] JEAN SIDER:
Jean Sider indicates that there was a close encounter of the third kind in the winter of 1926 in the evening at La Combe de Morbier in the Jura in France.
The incident was reported to investigators of the magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit by César Locatelli, born in 1918, on the occasion of their nvestigation at his home in Ménétrux-en-Joux, Jura.
As a child, Loctalli had known one Mr. Filippi and had attended an the evening when the witness had told his observation of a "big ball of glass." As 65 years had passed, he did not remember other details.
Filippi, a woodcutter of Italian origin who lived at Menetrux, used to return to Italy in winter because of the snow. He returned to his family at Berbero [sic], 30 km from Bergamo, in Lombardy, and there, he took part in an evening in a stable where all kinds of memories were told.
One day, Filippi claimed to have seen in La Combe de Morbier "a large glass ball with people in it, and that they could not be talked to," according to Mr. Locatelli's own words. No other details were delivered.
Jean Sider indicates that the source is LDLN #305, 1990, article by Michel Seythoux and Joël Mesnard.
[Ref. jg1:] JULIEN GONZALEZ:
The author indicates that there was a close encounter of the third kind in France in 1926 one evening at an unknown hour at La Combe de Morbier in the Jura.
Mr. Filippi, a lumberjack of Italian origin, reportedly have seen in the sky "a big glass ball with people inside, and that one could not talk to them."
Julien Gonzalez notes that the very succinct information was obtained in 1990 from Mr. César Locatelli, witness of a CE3 at Champagnolles in 1986, during an investigation by Michel Seythoux and Joël Mesnard at his home in Ménétrux-en-Joux.
He indicates that the source is "Lumières Dans La Nuit" #305.
There is a number of issues with this late, second-hand report at best, of course.
I want to point this out:
There are normally no pine-trees in the Jura. I think it is very possible that the report did not take place in the Jura in France, but in Italy.
The date "1926" might be the date of the encounter; however, it seems from the earliest source to be the date when it was told by Filippi to his fellows in Italy. This would mean that it could have occurred well before 1926.
It is not clear how César Locatelli, then a French child in the Jura, would have learned what Mr. Filippi told in an evening gathering in another country.
