An author of UFO books reports in 1954, without providing sources, that in March 1909, aarrow, oblong object with powerful light seen was in the sky over Peterborough, Englands, with sounds of motor. The same object seen also in skies from Essex and Midlands to Wales.
The author considers it is the same object and computes that it must have had a speed of 210 miles an hour to have covered this distance in one night.
A Welshman said it was tube-shaped, and that he saw "creatures like monkeys emerge from it." The author indicates that this part of the story was not confirmed.

[Ref. hw1:] HAROLD T. WILKINS:
Wilkins cites the following text, without providing sources:
1909 (March): Narrow, oblong object with powerful light seen in sky over Peterborough, Eng. Sounds of motor. Same object seen also in skies from Essex and Midlands to Wales. Object must have had a speed of 210 miles an hour to have covered this distance in one night. Welshman said it was tube-shaped, and he saw "creatures like monkeys emerge from it."
He comments that the part with the creatures was not confirmed, and notes that airplanes were merely in pioneer stage then.
[Ref. rs1:] RICHARD SENATE:
Ghost researcher Richard Senate mentions that on the evening of March 23, 1909 a British policeman in Petersborough, England, heard a loud engine noise in the sky.
When he looked up, he was shocked to see a large dirigible flying over the town, whereas in 1909 such flying machines were not common.
It is obvious that Harold Wilkins, insisting on not quite advanced state of aviation, forgets about dirigibles.
A confirmation by sources of the time on the case of the "creatures like monkeys" emerging from a tube-shaped craft would make the case more interesting.
