ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case number:

ALSACAT-2019-12-25-WINTZENHEIM-1

Summary:

"Axel" reported to the OVNI-France website his sighting which would have had 4 witnesses, on December 25, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. in Wintzenheim, for 10 minutes:

"This evening at 7 p.m. I observed very many luminous dots (difficult to estimate a number, I would say about fifty) which formed a perfect straight line and which advanced along the axis formed by this straight line pretty much from west to east"

"I would say the dots shone about like the surrounding stars and were a bit smaller than the stars."

"They were very tight overall, with a few spots farther out at the back. I didn't notice any noise, change in direction, speed or intensity. It all disappeared in one place and 10 minutes later nothing anymore"

12/25/2019 - (Dep.68) - Luminous dots

Date: 12/25/2019

Department: 68 (Haut-Rhin)

Location: Wintzeheim [sic]

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Number of witnesses: 4 people

Approximate observation time: 10 minutes

What was seen: Luminous dots

Description of the facts:

This evening at 7 p.m. I observed very many luminous points (difficult to estimate a number, I would say about fifty) which formed a perfect straight line and which advanced along the axis formed by this straight line at few things close from west to east

I would say the dots shone about like the surrounding stars and were a bit smaller than the stars.

They were very tight overall, with a few spots further out in the back. I noticed no noise, no change in direction, speed or intensity. He all disappeared in the same place and 10 minutes later nothing anymore

Map.

"Starlink" is a satellite Internet access program by the American aerospace manufacturer "SpaceX" (Elon Musk) based on the deployment of a constellation of several thousand telecommunications satellites placed in low earth orbit.

The first launches took place in June 2019. As of March 2021, 1385 satellites were in orbit.

The small satellites, after their launch, appear as a line of small luminous dots. As it is unlike anything you would have normally seen in the sky, each launch prompted sighting reports, with witnesses wondering what it could be. Over time, the show no longer surprises many people.

Below: sample video frames of "Starlink" satellites in the sky.
