ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Wittenheim, on May 11, 2012:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2012-05-11-WITTENHEIM-1

Summary:

"Hkf68", 29 years old, presenting himself as a 29-years-old business manager, from Wittenheim, saying "I don't believe in UFOs at all", published his testimony on July 11, 2012 on the ufology web board "Les Mystères des OVNIS", first without using the appropriate form.

He said he signed up to share his recent discoveries in the Alsatian sky lately, assuring that he doesn't believe in UFOs at all, but that "something strange is happening at the moment."

He said it all started on the night of Thursday, May 10, 2012 to Friday, May 11, 2012 around 12:30 a.m., certifying the date for having noted it down.

As usual, he went to his south-facing window to smoke a cigarette, and then saw in the sky a red light which wandered incessantly in a "south-west/north-east" direction, on quite a long distance, without the slightest noise. The light did not approach, its speed was quite slow and looking at it, he sometimes had the impression of seeing small green reflections.

It made the same journey a dozen times "to the nearest metre", to leave definitively in a northeast direction towards Freiburg, in Germany.

During this observation, he had called his wife who had noticed the same thing and did not know what to answer when he asked her what it could be. The next day, he told his friends about it, who replied that it was probably a helicopter - which he doubts. He looked in the newspapers, on Google, but "nobody talks about it" and he considered the case closed.

The following days, he observed the sky but saw nothing.

But since July 8, 2012, "things have changed considerably". That evening, still at his window, he sees what he thinks with certainty is the same red light. It is fixed above a small mountain. According to his consultation of Google Maps, it would be around Auggen in Germany. The phenomenon lasts about fifteen minutes, then the light suddenly disappears, as if it had been turned off.

The next evening, July 9, 2012, he saw the same light, but not in the same place. It flashed, and after 5 minutes, he saw a second one, red, light up next to the first. For 2 or 3 minutes, "nothing", then one of the two lights took the southwest direction quite slowly for 2 minutes, and suddenly, the two lights disappeared almost instantly.

On July 10, 2012, for the 3rd evening in a row, he saw this red light around "this small mountain located in Germany" and for the 3rd time in a row in a different place. He saw it for exactly 8 minutes before it disappeared, this time blinking, and without making any movement, like the one on Sunday July 8, 2012.

He no longer talked about it to his friends "for fear of being taken for a madman, especially since the phenomena do not last long, only my wife who shares these moments. I did not make any statement to the gendarmerie but I 'hesitates to do so'. He asks to be taken seriously and feels "really worried", hoping that we can give him an answer.

He then filled out the board's sighting report form. He indicated the date of July 11, 2012, a start time of 10:40 p.m., a durationof 2 minutes, and 1 witness under cloudy sky of a "strange light in the sky."

His account states that as for the past 3 days - he links to his previous post - he was able to see "that famous red light flying over western Germany", heading north blinking, at slow speed. The object got lost in the clouds. He is still surprised that no one talks about it that there is no information disseminated in the newspaper.

He indicates that he was able to borrow a camera to film the phenomenon, but that the object was too far away to be filmed.

The questionnaire gives a "North 60° - North 60°" trajectory, an absence of noise, a controlled movement independent of the wind, the presence of the Fessenheim nuclear power plant.

One of the analysts on the web board pointed out to him that he must specify the trajectories on the map, indicate whether they are straight, and that he can check himself online for the presence of any planes during these observations.

After this, the witness kept silent.

Subject: 2012: on 07/11 - Strange light in the sky - Wittenheim (68) Wed Jul 11 2012, 00:17

Hello. I come on this forum to share with you my recent discoveries in the Alsatian sky lately. Well, honestly, I do not at all believe in UFOs but something strange is going on right now. It all began on the night of Thursday, May 10, 2012 to Friday, May 11, 2012 at around 0:30 (exact date, logbook confirms). As usual, I go to my window (facing south) to smoke a cigarette. At that moment, I saw in the sky a red light that wandered endlessly in direction (southwest / northeast) constantly over a long distance without a sound. The light does not approach, its speed is rather slow and looking at it, I sometimes seem to see little green reflections... it performs the same journey ten times to the meter, to permanently leave in the direction Northeast (Freiburg / Germany). During this observation, I called my wife who observed the same thing and did not know what to answer me when I asked her what that could be. The next day, I talk to my friends, I look in the newspapers, on google, nothing, no one speaks. My friends told me it was probably a helicopter, I do not think so, but okay the story is closed. I am attentive to the heavens the following days but nothing more.

But, since July 8, things have changed considerably. That Sunday evening, again at my window, I see the same red light (I'm sure it's the same) fixed above a small mountain. According to Google Maps, it would be around Auggen / Germany. The phenomenon lasts about fifteen minutes and then the light disappears suddenly, as if it would have been turned off! The next evening, so last night, I saw that same light, but not in the same place, it would blink and after 5 minutes I see a second red light lihjt up next to it. Nothing for 2-3 minutes, then one of the two lights takes the southwesterly direction rather slowly for 2 minutes, and suddenly, the 2 lights disappear almost instantly... Tonight was no different, for the third night in a row I saw the red light around this small mountain located in Germany and for the 3rd time in a row at a different location. I could see it for exactly 8 minutes before it disappeared ... no movement, this time the light was not blinking and was fixed olke on Sunday, July 8.

By researching on youtube, I came across a video where one sees exactly what wanders above my head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYEep1sr68k&feature=related

I do not talk about it to my friends afraid to be considered crazy, especially as the phenomena does not last long, only my wife who shares these moments. I made no statement to the police but I hesitate to do so. Please take this matter seriou [sic], I am really worried and I hope you have an answer to this puzzle.

As in the past 3 days (see my post: http://www.forum-ovni-ufologie.com/t15129-lumieres-rouges-dans-le-ciel) I could see that famous red light flying west from Germany. It was heading north and was blinking. Its speed was slow and the object was lost in the clouds. For the fourth day in a row, I see these lights in the sky without anyones speaking about it and without any information disseminated in the newspaper. Am I the only one to scan the sky of Mulhouse or is there anyone who could tell me he sees the same things as I do now? Anyway, I managed to borow a camera to film the phenomenon, only tonight the object was too far away to be filmed

Hello HkF68,

Your observations require details about the trajectoires. To do this take a Google earth picture overlooking the place where you were and add your trajectories (different colors for each). Then post the image here.

Can you clarify also if the trajectories are linear, or if they change direction, heading, altitude, interrupt and resume, etc?

What do you think makes you think of UFOs rather than a airliners?

The Basel Mulhouse Airport is not far...

If you see something tonight, you can easily control it is or is not an airplane by using the following link:

http://www.flightradar24.com/

Looking forward to your answers.

Hello verveine

I don't know about you guys, but the link you give (http://www.flightradar24.com/ I follow it for some time, and as soon as a plane is in landing phase it disappears from my screen .. .

So not very reliable to compare

Otherwise for the testimony I don't know what to think...

That said vervein i appreciate your appreciations in the various post thank you

Hello HKF68

I think that for now there may be an additional information to provide like verveine already wrote about your first post.

(You should maybe not have opened a second witness report? And keep on writing after the first one? Maybe see with a member of the team to put this message inside your first post)

Otherwise the idea of a video seems obviously good! But when an observation can be renewed each day is probably a helicopter, plane, ... to schek ;-)

Best regards

Hello Patrick,

And Thank you for your appreciation gnome

About the website in question actually landing aircraft no longer appear, which seems normal to me ... anyway here (Marignane) they disappear approximately 1min before landing.

So here it seems to me quite useful in this case. Besides if I remember well there is a radio beacon before Basel Mulhouse ....

PS: I can not see the video I'm on a mobile phone.

Cheers

Hello and welcome Rejoy,

To testify you must use the form... Sorry for this formalism, but mix of the stories in a post, blurs the understanding of exposed cases. For example I think Christian DURMEYER in his post replies to your post... but in fact he may be giving his opinion on the observation of HkF68... You see how possible confusion start

In addition, by completing the form you will be asked to provide sufficient detail so an analysis can be made.

Moreover it also good to introduce yourself, as a new member.

Discussion:

Map.

The place of observation allows to see the air traffic around the airport of Basel - Mulhouse - Freiburg, with particularly, the planes which have just taken off or in landing approach, flying slowly and low.

Wittenheim is 20 - 25 km from the airport runways, and many planes fly that way to avoid an overflight of Mulhouse.

Auggen in Germany, site for one of the sightings, is due east of Wittenheim.

The supposed UFO "performs the same route about ten times to the nearest meter", this could correspond to a plane in a holding pattern (French pilots say "do a racetrack") to land at the international airport from Basel - Mulhouse - Freiburg. He then says that the UFO took off in a northeasterly direction. But he does not tell us where the UFO was before (South?) and gives no indication of the angular magnitude of the maneuver. Hence the justified question on the Web board, "Your observations would require details about the trajectories."

The witness evokes "the impression sometimes of seeing small green reflections", this may correspond to the green signal light on the right wing of an airplane.

The simple fact that the witness did not respond, after the suggestion to check the air traffic on flightradar24.com, makes me think that he simply realized that what he had observed was indeed the air traffic aerial around Basel.

Evaluation:

Probable planes.
