ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Rixheim, on September 26, 2010:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2010-09-26-RIXHEIM-1

Summary:

On September 28, 2010, someone posted on Youtube what he said to be a video of a UFO filmed in Rixheim on september 26 2010, the hour not being specified.

The video unfortunately disappeared, and the story only indicates that the object was "in the direction of Fessenheim, towards Germany", that the alleged witness was able to stabilize his digital camera after 4 minutes of shooting, that he used a x48 zoom.

He added that he had "seen it on September 24 at the same place" but had not been able to film it, and that on September 27, it had "disappeared!!"

Discussion:

Map.

The video being gone when I started this case file, I cannot say what it could have been; specially as the witten report gives almost no information.

Fessenheim is approximately 20 km, and 29 degrees (north-northeast), from Rixheim. This distance does not advocate a good benchmark, it was perhaps rather cited to link the UFO to the nuclear plant there.

I nevertheless checked whether Venus, sometimes a cause of "UFO videos", would have been in that direction in the night of September 26, 2010; but that was not the case.

However, we have the bright star Cappella in that direction and low on the horizon at 08:00 p.m.. It was also there on September 24 and 27, 2010. Were there clouds that would have hidden it on the 27th?

Evaluation:

Totally insufficient information.
