"Kevin L." reported his sighting on the Les Mystères des OVNIS Web ufology board, of which he was already a member.
He apologizes for the little information he can give, as he cannot remember the exact date of the sighting, which was "around 2007 and 2009".
He was outside his home in Metzeral between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., chatting with a friend, when they saw a triangle-shaped object coming from behind the mountains.
It had, he said, three lights that weren't blinking, red and green in color. Its displacement was quite slow, more or less that of an airliner, and it appeared to be quite low, moving from West to East.
There was a very faint hum, like that of airliners, but very, very low. Then the mountains hid the object.
The two friends had thought of a military plane, "but hard to say, it looked like a solid object, you couldn't see through between the three lights."
He gave the same observation time "10 to 15 seconds", the "size of the phenomenon" as "more or less like a 2€ coin".
On questioning, he adds not to have mentioned it around him, apart from a few friends, that he may have overestimated the angular size he indicated. A member of the forum noting that according to the now defunct Website Casperflights.com an air traffic roure passes over the place, he confirms that there are often planes there.

First of all I want to apologize for the lack of information, I do not remember the exact date of the sighting, or even the year. I still wanted to share my memories. I'm thinking around 2007 and 2009. I was outside my house between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. chatting with a friend and we saw a triangle-shaped object coming from behind the mountains. It had 3 steady lights, they weren't blinking, red and green in color. Its movement was quite slow (more or less the same speed as an airliner) but seemed to be quite low, it was moving from West to East. There was a very slight humming sound, (like airliners) but very, very faint. Then the mountains hid the object. We immediately thought of a military plane, but hard to say, it seemed to be a solid object, we couldn't see through between the 3 lights. A € 2 coin is 25.75mm in diameter. The full moon in the sky is 4.5 mm in apparent size. If you insist that the size was of a 2€ coin, it means that you have been flown over by a triangle that was 5.7 times the size of the full moon in the sky. In the majority of cases the apparent sizes are overestimated by the witnesses because the fact of focusing your attention on something "makes" what you observe "bigger". Good evening. |

It seems very difficult to me to discard that this UFO was an airplane because everything suggests it: the noise given as "a very slight hum, like that of airliners", the red and green lights, the speed given as "more or less that of an airliner".
The short duration of the sighting, due to the visual obstacle of the mountains, certainly contributed to the witness not having had time to realize what the UFO was.
