ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Altkirch, on December 20, 2007:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2007-12-20-ALTKIRCH-1

Summary:

On December 21 2007, "Caro68" wrote the UFO website "Véritas Europe" to report a sighting by her sister who has no Internet connection.

Her sister was out quietly behind her house at about 10:15 p.m. or 10:20 p.m. the evening before, December 20, 2007, in the Haut-Rhin in the vicinity of Altkirch, when suddenly she looked up after having been dazzled.

There was a kind of round blue light in the sky, whose apparent size she estimated to be the about one eighth of that of the moon. She said it "seemed to be near while being far away."

This light remained on site for a few seconds and then this "ball" fell very quickly as if it "landed" on the ground.

Her sister does not know where to turn to, "Caro68" thanks in advance that the message is taken seriously. She's reluctant to report it to the police for fear of being taken for a disturbed person. She hopes someone can say perhaps what it was, if someone else saw it too.

Other websites republished the testimony without giving or proposing an answer.

good evening to all...

In advance forgive me if I post this message at the wrong place..... It's just that this is my first visit to this website.

In fact, I write here on behalf of my sister who has no internet connection ...

I explain the situation, she was quietly out behind her house last night (December 20, 2007 in the Haut-Rhin, Sundgau and to be more precise around Altkirch) at about 10:15 p.m. - 10:20 p.m. when suddenly she looked up after being dazzled. There was a kind of round blue light in the sky (for information she told me it was the size of about one-eighth of the moon).

This light remained on site just a few seconds and the "ball" fell very quickly like to "land" on the ground.

It seemed close while being far away.

Well, thank you in advance for taking this message seriously. My sister does not know where to talk of this phenomenon... Obviously for my part I ould not know what to do ... declare that to the police .. ?? I admit that I have a little fear of being taken for a deranged person.

In short, this is where I left this testimony with the hope that someone can tell me perhaps what it was if someone else saw it too....

Thank you wholeheartedly!

Discussion:

Map.

So we have a luminous object, bright enough to be dazzling, big enough to appear an eighth of the size of the moon, blue or bluish in color, and apparently falling.

This should clearly evoke a meteor.

Evaluation:

Possible meteor.
