ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Mulhouse, on July 25, 2004:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2004-07-25-MULHOUSE-1

Summary:

"Caramel," a mother of four, reported to the UFO website "OVNI-France", that in Mulhouse, at the end of July 2004 - she no longer knows exactly the date - at about 0:30 a.m. or 1 a.m., she observed "nocturnal lights" for a minute.

She said it was a "black triangle at little altitude, 3 white dots of light."

She says she spoke about it "very little for fear of being called a crazy woman," and she knows that "on earth, there are things going on that we cannot even imagine."

She added that she believes "in god" and "the history of our planet," that she often reads Science and Alternative; which is "very informative."

Discussion:

Map.

"Science et Alternative" is actually the subtitle of the sensationalist magazine Nexus (www.nexus.fr). The magazine publishes articles "against" "official" medicine, the "paranormal" in all its forms, conspiracy articles, and articles about UFOs often of the "lunatic fringe" kind.

Example with the summary of their #87 of 2013:

"Similar" sightings mentioned by "Arcturus" in the A35 area near Mulhouse are those near the Basel Mulhouse airport. Most - not all - are misunderstandings caused by airliners coming to land and passing over the highway, practically on its axis, often seeming "hovering" by illusion, and carrying their powerful headlights on at low altitude. However, there is no indication in the report that allows to really linke the places. The airport area is a good twenty kilometers from Mulhouse.

The lady reading Nexus and believing in god and "the history of our planet" (whatever that may mean) is one thing that can certainly be considered unfavorable to the strength of the case.

But the most annoying is that there where almost no information. No specific place, no date, even less time, angular sizes, directions etc.

I also wonder why a specific date of 27-07-2004 is given while the lady then said she does not remember exactly.

I think the lady, using the testimony form, thought it was enough to fill a few fields shown such as "Date", "Location", "Time", and did not think that "Description of the facts" was supposed to be well filled with a maximum of details.

In the end, this might have been almost everything one can think of...

Evaluation:

Insufficient information, possible plane.
