ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Bischheim, in May 2002:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2002-05-00-BISCHHEIM-1

Summary:

On June 30, 2004, a story signed "krysaor" and titled "ufo above strasbourg" appeared on French-speaking ufology forums:

It was 2 years ago in May. A friend was walkin his dog and I went with him. it was around 6 p.m. the sky was blue. at some time i lookd up to the sky and i see 2 balls, a white one and a red one, heading at a very high altitude towards germany. they followed each other at equal distance but I don't remember who folowed the other. it wasnt headlights because their lights were diffused all around. after a few seconds they disappeard above the blak forest.

about 5 minutes later, we heard 2 or 3 fighter planes coming from the south (probably F1 mirages from meyenheim) and heading towards the black forest at full speed. About 3 minutes later, we heard the same fighter planes heading south at a slower pace.

we never have a camcorder with uss, it's normal youd tell me, it's hard for me to see me walkin around all the time with a camera around my neck. But with the new generation of mobile phones integrating video, it will already be easyer for the lucky guys who witness this kind of pheno to get proof.

A ufologist from the SPICA association responded immediately by pointing out that "a minimum of information is missing, namely, place, direction, duration, etc."

"krysaor" replied that it is difficult for him because it happened "about 2 years ago I think"; he specifies that it was in Bischheim, that he was walking with a friend along a path parallel to the rails in front of the SNCF railway co workshops, that he no longer remembers the time but that it was at the end of afternoon, because it was less hot.

He specified that it was difficult to assess the real size of the apparatuses and therefore their altitudes, but that it seemed to him to be about 5000 meters, with a speed of about 700 km / h, that they were flying over the south of Strasbourg from west to east, at constant speed and distance, that it was two balls, not headlights, luminous, one red and one white, in broad daylight.

They had disappeared behind the buildings of the SNCF workshops, heading towards the Black Forest; they had continued walking, and between 5 or 10 minutes later, they had heard "Mirages" (fighter jets) coming from the south and heading in their direction, rapidly but at subsonic speed since there was no sonic boom.

Another 5 minutes later, they heard Mirages heading south again at a slower speed, leading them to think that they were the same ones. He indicates that since the Strasbourg air base (Entzheim) has been closed for a long time, they had to come "from Colmar, a Mirage F1 base".

They had continued their walk, and 5 minutes after the passage of the Mirages, they had arrived at a place from where the Black Forest was visible. There was a big cloud formation above the mountains and he thought he saw a red ball coming out of the clouds, spiraling and re-entering them at such a speed that he wondered if he really saw it or if it was some optical effect. He remains in doubt, especially as his friend did not have time to see this, it only lasted a second or less.

I add sme more info, sorry I will do my best that's happened about 2 years ago already it seems to me:

The place: i ws in bischheim and I was walking with a friend along a path parallel to the rails in front of the railway workshops.

The time I cant remember itwas late afternoon, it was cooler.

it was difficult to apreciate the real size of the craft and therefore their altitudes, but I would say roughly 5000 meters, they flew over Strasbourg from the south to the west, same speed, same distance, two balls (but not headlights balls) bright red and white in full day.

once disappeared behind the buildings workshops we keep walking sme minutes later (5 to ten) we heard th mirages comin from the south go to their direction full throttle but subsonic speed anyway (there was no boom). about 5 minutes later we heard mirages go back towards the south at a lower speed (everything leads to think that it was the same mirages. the air base in Strasbourg was long closed those came from Colmar (a mirage f1 base). north of Alsace there's a radar base 'drachenbronne' its surely them who initiated the alert. tje bright balls slowly headed to the blak forest. And as said, constant altitude, constant speed (if those there were indeed at about 5000m they must have flown at about 700 km / h (didn't seem to be in a hurry).

another disturbing fact but that leaves room for doubt:

still continuing our walk, we arrived at a place where it was possible to see the blak forest. that was 5 min after the passage of mirages. There was a big cloud formation abov the mountains and it semed to me i see a red ball out of the clouds, making a spiral and back again into them at a speed such that i wonder if that was really wat i saw or if some optical effect, in short, i have a doubt about that and my friend did not have the tim to see it because it lasted one second not even. i saw it because I had the nose facing the blak forest in case ...

i do not remember more than that sorry.

Discussion:

Map.

The sighting is rather strange, but it is hard to resist the idea that it was some military drill and that the two lights were something like luminous targets or whatever. There just isn't enough information to rule it out.

Evaluation:

Unidentified, insufficient information.
