ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Zillisheim, on November 17, 1980:

Case number:

ALSACAT-1980-11-17-ZILLISHEIM-1

Summary:

The regional newspaper L'Alsace for November 19, 1980, reported that a reisdent of Zillisheim, Mr. Lucien Fluck, had informed them the day before that he had seen on "Monday" - therefore on November 17 1980 - at approximately 10:00 p.m., in the sky, in the direction of Flaxlanden, a shiny disk, too big to be a star.

"Three green dots in a triangle, and not blinking, were on the circumference of the disc. The whole was still in the sky, and made no noise. Mr. Fluck, who was intrigued by the phenomenon ("I went around the world twice in the Navy and I never saw such a thing") while he was walking his dog, immediately went up to his house to get binoculars. In the meantime, the disc was gone."

A UFO in the sky
of Flaxlanden?

A resident of Zillisheim, Mr. Lucien Fluck told us yesterday that he had seen Monday around 10 p.m. in the sky, in the direction of Flaxlanden, a shining disc, too big to be a star.

Three green dots in a triangle, and not blinking, were on the circumference of the disc. The whole was motionless in the sky, and made no noise. Mr. Fluck, who was intrigued by the phenomenon ("I have been around the world in the Navy twice and never witnessed such a thing") while he was walking his dog, immediately went up home to take binoculars. In the meantime, the disc was gone.

Discussion:

Map.

Flaxlanden is in the East of Zillisheim; the two villages are contiguous, we do not know where the witness stood as he was walking his dog, so we can only guess that the "object" was probably roughly in the East of the witness.

Map.

The report is unfortunately without great details; one may think for example of nightclub projectors.

Evaluation:

Possible projectors.
