In October 1980, the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit reportedly wrote about a sighting in Rixheim on April 11, 1980, at 11:10 p.m.
A couple on an outside balcony with access to the entrance of their apartment had their attention drawn to a very large and bright ball in the sky.
The center of the ball was white and flashing red lights were visible on the perimeter.
The object remained stationary for 30 minutes.
Suddenly, a red ball fell from the phenomenon and remained stationary between the ground and the main object.
Then the main object departed slowly towards the west-northwest on a straight path but seeming to go down towards the Vosges.
The second object went away to the south.

Observation
A couple is on an outside balcony giving access to the entrance of their apartment when their attantion [sic] is attracted by a very large and bright ball in the sky. The center was white and flashing red lights were visible on the perimeter. The object remained stationary for thirty minutes. Suddenly a red ball falls and the phenomenon remains stationary between the ground and the main object. The main object then departed slowly towards the west north west on a straight path but seeming to go down towards the Vosges. The second object went to the south.

I do not see what this phenomenon was.
But the data available to me for now are too meager to make a "good" case of this anyway.
