ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Rixheim, on April 11, 1980:

Case number:

ALSACAT-1980-04-11-RIXHEIM-1

Summary:

In October 1980, the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit reportedly wrote about a sighting in Rixheim on April 11, 1980, at 11:10 p.m.

A couple on an outside balcony with access to the entrance of their apartment had their attention drawn to a very large and bright ball in the sky.

The center of the ball was white and flashing red lights were visible on the perimeter.

The object remained stationary for 30 minutes.

Suddenly, a red ball fell from the phenomenon and remained stationary between the ground and the main object.

Then the main object departed slowly towards the west-northwest on a straight path but seeming to go down towards the Vosges.

The second object went away to the south.

Discussion:

Map.

I do not see what this phenomenon was.

But the data available to me for now are too meager to make a "good" case of this anyway.

Evaluation:

Unidentified, but sparse data.
