ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Mulhouse, on April 20, 1970:

Case number:

ALSACAT-1970-04-20-MULHOUSE-1

Summary:

Among a number of observations reported in the Mulhouse area, on April 20, 1970, and subsequently, the regional newspaper L'Alsace for April 24, 1970, reported that there had been "another witness" for that of April 20, 1970:

An unnamed resident of Mulhouse, after his work, was walking as he liked at the edge of Mulhouse, towards the Cernay road, and had observed the phenomenon already reported, but situated it "much closer than thought so far." He stated that if it had happened in Berrwiller, he would not have been able to see the luminous ball at ground level; the trees would have hidden its departure. As he saw it from the ground, he thought it had to take off from a much closer area of Wittelsheim, for example on the meadows of the Thur.

The paper noted that there is still no explanation for these observations.

Again a witness

Still no explanation for the "flying saucer" of Monday night, but one more witness. It is a resident of Mulhouse who, after work, likes to walk at the edge of our locality, towards the road to Cernay. He, however, brings a precision. Having observed the phenomenon, he places it much closer than hitherto thought: "if it had happened in Berrwiller, I would not have seen the luminous ball at ground level. The trees would have hidden my sight. As I saw it from the ground, it must have taken off in a much closer corner of Wittelsheim, for example on the meadows of the Thur."

It remains to know what happened in reality on the meadows of the Thur last Monday around 9 p.m..

[Ref. cvn2:] CHRISTIAN VALENTIN:

Christian Valentin indicates that among the articles about the observation of April 20, 1970, in the Mulhouse area, there was the one of Friday, April 24, 1970, in the Mulhouse issue of the newspaper L'Alsace:

Discussion:

Map.

Like with the other additional testimonies for the observation(s) of April 20th, 1970, in the sector of Mulhouse, there is only little data. The journalists must have considered or heard that the hours was the same, but formally, it is not assured.

The witness might have been near Lutterbach, or Morschwiller-le-Bas, on the edge of Mulhouse.

The mentioned locations.

The map shows about 30 km in its width.

Evaluation:

Unidentified, totally insufficient data.
