ALSACAT-1968-00-00-LAUTENBACH-1
In the "Contact Lecteurs" supplement of the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit for July 1972, an anonymous reader reported he experienced two observations in Lautenbach, one in 1951, one in 1953, and he reported a 1968 sighting.
For the latter, only dated "1968", he wrote that at 05:00 am, in Lautenbach in the Haut-Rhin, his brother and a friend saw a silent "disc-shaped object successively emitting red, yellow, green and blue lights."
There was no investigation or checking, no other information. The case could be explained in many ordinary manners (Plane? Meteor? Star?), but the short summary was published as a UFO sighting, in even shorter form, on several French UFO websites thereafter.

The strangeness of the sighting is very weak, and the data is far too small for evaluation. Was there a trail and then was it a meteor? What about the duration, distance, direction, date? Did the thing move or was it perhaps a star diffracted by ice crystals of a cloud layer?
Note that none of the secondary sources mentions the original source accurately and none said that the brother of one of the alleged witnesses had seen UFOs or flying saucers twice.

Totally insufficient data. Plane, meteor...?
