ACUFO:

ACUFO is my comprehensive catalog of cases of encounters between aircraft and UFOs, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ACUFO catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file.

Case number:

ACUFO-1945-00-00-MUNSTER-1

Summary:

Circa 1999, Godelieve van Overmeire, a Belgian "skeptical" ufologist, compiled a "UFO Chronology" and published it on the Web.

Among the cases she listed, whe noted that in 1945, in Munster, Germany, the crew of a Canadian Halifax bomber saw a small ball of flames.

She indicated that the source was the aircraft - UFO encounters catalogue by French ufologist Dominique Weinstein the the 1999 version; but I did not find this case in it and found no other sources about this case.

The crew of a Canadian Halifax bomber sees a small ball of flames. (PROJECT ACUFOE, Catalog 1999, Dominique Weinstein)

Aircraft information:

The Handley Page Halifax was a RAF long range heavy night bomber introduced in 1940.

It had 6 to 8 Browning 7.62 mm machines guns, 2 or four on the top, 4 on the belly, and one Vickers 7.62 mm machine gun in the nose.

Below: a Halifax bomber of 76th Squadron in 1943.

Halifax.

Discussion:

Map.

I noticed that this case does not appear in any of the versions I have of the catalog by Dominique Weinstein. I was also unable to find any other source for this incident, which is so briefly described here that I am unable to make any other assessment than to note the lack of information.

Evaluation:

Totally insufficient information.
