In a "Drôme - Ardèche" sightings catalog compiled by the Association des Amis de Thirouin (AAMT) in their ufological bulletin U.F.O. Information, from the 4th quarter of 1981, is noted an observation of September 1954, in Aubignas, in Ardèche:
At around 9:30 p.m., in good clear and calm weather, after nightfall, Mr. Marius Volle, farmer, former mayor of Aubignas, Mr. Camille Pic, retired from the SNCF national railway company, residing in Aste, Mr. Henri Leynaud, retired from "Clément Lafarge", at Vieux Mélas in Le Teil, had finished the day of grapes harvest and had supped.
Mr. Pic and Mr. Lexnaud were going home. Mr Volle accompanied them, and from the gate of Mr. Volle's house, one could see a glow illuminating the mountain as in broad daylight on the "Coteau des Coirons".
An object resembling two "inverted plates", gave a horizontal beam, a bit orange colored. The object itself was illuminated.
The witnesses were surprised. They had talked about UFOs in the afternoon, one of them had even said: "I will believe it only when I see it".
The object was moving from east to west north of the house, from the direction of Rochemaure to Villeneuve de Berg, halfway up the mountain.
After an observation of perhaps 30 seconds, the object rose to incredible speed, at right angle according to Mr. Volle's explanations, and then "disappeared into the sky."
This is indicated to come from a January 1977 investigation by the AAMT.

Mr. Volle accompanied them, and from the gate of the house, one could see a glow illuminating the mountain as in broad daylight on the "Coteau des Coirons".

Surprise of the witnesses, they had, in the afternoon, spoken about UFOs, one of them had even declared: "I will believe it only when I will see it".
This object moved from east to west north of the house (of Mr. Volle), from the direction of Rochemaure to Villeneuve de Berg, mid-slope of the mountain.
After an observation of perhaps 30 seconds, the object rose to an incredible speed (at right angles according to the explanations of the witness Mr. Volle) and then disappeared in the sky.
SOURCES: AAMT investigation of January 1977.
This was possibly a meteor. Unfortunately, the absence of a precise date does not allow the observation to be related with certainty to one or the other of the known meteor passages in September 1954.
Note that we do not know which of the witnesses were heard: only Mr. Volle?
