The regional newspaper Var-Matin République for October 12, 1954, reported that flying saucers had been discussed in Bastia since an unknown craft had come to hover above the Sanguinaires Islands.
[Ref. vmr1:] NEWSPAPER "VAR-MATIN REPUBLIQUE":
One of our fellows from Bastia is said to have seen in the sky of Ajaccio, a flying cigar. Actually, it was quite simply a jet plane which left, Monday evening, a long white trail, which intrigued many people. The city discusses the flying saucers since an unknown apparatus was seen motionless above the Sanguinaire Islands. But the city is less surprised by the visit of this cigar which had the shape of a jet.
The information I have at the moment is far too meager, I can only suggest that it could have been a helicopter, or a balloon, for example.
