The regional newspaper La Voix du Nord, in the local Douai edition for November 14, 1954, reported that "the other evening", the Pécoul family, domiciled on the route d'Escaudain, had been suddenly awakened by violent explosions coming from outside.
The parents, the newspaper said, tried to get outside, a mysterious force paralyzed them, as they could make out a very luminous red mass in a nearby field, and mysterious shadows which appeared around the craft and faded away in the darkness.
Frightened, these "residents of the building returned to the house more dead than alive", but the next day "one realized" that it was a joke:
The newspaper explains that two "pranksters" had played the role of the Martians and had placed a paper "saucer" in the neighbor's field.
[Ref. vdn1:] NEWSPAPER "LA VOIX DU NORD":
The other evening, the Pécoul family, living on the Route d'Escaudain, were suddenly awakened by the violent explosions coming from outside. As soon as the parents tried to go outside, a mysterious force paralised them, as they distinguished a very luminous red mass in a nearby field. Mysterious shadows appeared around the craft and... faded into the darkness.
We can guess the amazement that seized the inhabitants of the building who, frightened, returned to the house more dead than alive. The next day, however, one realized that it was a joke and that two "pranksters" had played the role of the Martians and had placed a paper "saucer" in the neighbor's field.
Negative case, prank.
