In the "Contact Lecteurs" supplement to the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit of July 1971, Mr. Guillo, LDLN investigator, during an investigation into a 1969 sighting, indicated he discovered an older observation, dating from 1954, from March according to the witness, Mr. Léon Le Haziff. This witness said:
"It was around 11:00 p.m. and I was returning, accompanied by the clerk Joseph Marteil, to an annex of the farm located in La Gouhan [likely "La Gourhan"]."
"As we arrived at the east gable of the annex, we were dazzled by a sudden and violent illumination which revealed as in broad daylight the place where we were as well as the surrounding landscape. It felt like daylight."
"The phenomenon lasted 5 to 6 seconds, and immediately after there was with the extinction a total blackness. Dazzled, we had to stop so as not to hit the obstacles around us."
"Immediately after this extinction, we distinguished vertically in the sky an elongated shape of bright red color. Its intensity diminished until it completely disappeared. This second phenomenon lasted for 5 to 6 seconds."
"The thing had the shape of a cigar, a kind of shell, long like this pole, maybe shorter but just as wide (it's a cement electric pole, 10 meters from us, whose height on the ground I estimate at 12 or 15 m and the width at around 30 cm). It was just overhead in the direction of the path leading to Bellevue. I hadn't noticed anything in the sky before or during the illumination, it wasn't until after that I noticed this elongated shape which reddened. This object, while appearing to stay in place, gave me the impression of heading towards Bellevue."
The investigator specified that the sky was then starry, slightly "blurred" and the moon not visible, that there had been a total absence of noise, which had led to the rejection of the idea that it was ??a plane.
[Ref. ldl1:] UFOLOGY MAGAZINE "LUMIERES DANS LA NUIT":
When investigating a 1969 case, Mr. Guillo, LDLN investigator, reported:
I found an old event, which took place in 1954, in March, thinks the witness, Mr. Le Haziff Léon.
"It was around 11:00 p.m. and I was returning, accompanied by the clerk Joseph Marteil, to an annex of the farm located in La Gouhan.
As we arrived at the east gable of the annex, we were dazzled by a sudden and violent illumination which revealed as in broad daylight the place where we were as well as the surrounding landscape. It felt like daylight.
The phenomenon lasted 5 to 6 seconds, and immediately after there was with the extinction a total blackness. Dazzled, we had to stop so as not to hit the obstacles around us.
Immediately after this extinction, we distinguished vertically in the sky an elongated shape of bright red color. Its intensity diminished until it completely disappeared. This second phenomenon lasted for 5 to 6 seconds.
The thing had the shape of a cigar, a kind of shell, long like this pole, maybe shorter but just as wide (it's a cement electric pole, 10 meters from us, whose height on the ground I estimate at 12 or 15 m and the width at around 30 cm). It was just overhead in the direction of the path leading to Bellevue. I hadn't noticed anything in the sky before or during the illumination, it wasn't until after that I noticed this elongated shape which reddened. This object, while appearing to stay in place, gave me the impression of heading towards Bellevue."
It appears from the investigation that the sky was starry, slightly "blurred" and the moon not visible. Total absence of noise, which caused the idea of ??an airplane to be rejected.
The other investigations conducted and described by Mr. Guillo in [ldl1] in these pages are in the department of "Côtes-du-Nord", renamed Côtes-d'Armor in 1990.
I couldn't find any "La Gouhan" in the Côtes-d'Armor; on the other hand, there is a place called "La Gourhan" in the department of Morbihan, just 1 km from the southern limit of the Cotes-d'Armor.
At the place called "La Gourhan", there is a farm indeed.
Probable meteor.
The witnesses probably experienced the "explosion" (final combustion) of that meteor.
