Summary:

In the 2000's, the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit introduced in the ufological field an event that would have been reported in the newspaper Les Informations Dieppoises for January 21, 1954:

The British freight ship Pelsdale, 160 km west of Ouessant, at 46°55 North and 06°30 West, allegedly radioed that an airplane had crashed into the sea while emitting a lot of smoke. No aircraft was reported missing.

Reports:

[Ref. jmd1:] JOEL MESNARD:

The author indicats that in January 1954, 160 km West of Ouessant, at 46° 55' North and 06° 30' West, the British cargo ship Pelsdale radioed that an airplane crashed into the sea while emitting a lot of smoke, but no plane was missing.

The sources are indicated as "Informations Dieppoises", January 21, 1954; LDLN 372, p. 9.

Explanations:

The fact that no plane was missing does not eliminate the possibility of the January 9, 1954, meteor in that area.

I found no information at all about a "Pelsdale" ship.

The indicated localization would be at the red dot off shore on this map:
