Beginning of November, 1954, Coutance, Manche:

Reference for this case: Beg-Nov-54-Coutance.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

In pages devoted to the "flying saucers", Radar magazine of October 1954 published a photo of a Mr. Deserre, from Coutance, in the Manche department, explaining that he was still shaking: "This ball of fire, he said, streaked the sky with a luminous and flexible trail like that of a molten cigar."

In the 1950s, a French archivist interested in the "flying saucers", Guy Quincy, typed a very brief catalog of observations, without citing his sources; he indicated there a sighting of the beginning of November 1954 at an unknown hour in Coutance in the Manche department, France, noting that it was an intense luminous object which might have been a meteor.

A MELTING CIGAR...

Mr. Deserre (right.), of Coutance (Manche) is still trembling. "This fireball, he says, crossed the sky of a luminous and flexible trail like that of a melting cigar."
