Autumn or winter, 1954, Landry, Savoie:

Summary:

In the ufology bulletin Le Phénomène OVNI of the "Comité Savoyard d'Etudes et de Recherches Ufologiques" (CSERU), No. 4 of the 3rd quarter of 1978, a previously unknown case appeared, of which the exact date is not known, but would have taken place in the fall or winter of 1954.

It is said that this case is known by an investigation carried out in 1976 by Messrs. Greslou and Roulet.

At 6 p.m., four senior officials from the Savoy direction of the PTT - the French national phone and mail services - returned from a mission in the Tarentaise region, and were traveling on the road from Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Chambéry.

When they reached the town of Landry, about 6 km from Bourg-Saint-Maurice, their attention was drawn to a luminous object moving at "lightning" speed. The driver stopped the vehicle, and everyone watched, the sighting having lasted "about ten seconds maximum."

The object looked like "a cigar or a saucer seen in profile", "larger than an airplane in size", it was very luminous and crossed the valley perpendicularly, from the North-West to the South-East, and "therefore" at an altitude "necessarily higher than 2500 m".

It was orange-red on the back, the pure orange of the Pantone chart, and emerald green on the front (333 of the Pantone chart).

We are told that its dimension was "3 cm at arm's length", "which corresponds to a dimension of a hundred meters minimum".

The heard witness said they were "stunned and fascinated", that "it couldn't be a rocket, it didn't exist at the time!"

Investigators add that the witnesses "are absolutely trustworthy"; that the one they were able to interview and whom they had known for a long time holds a high political function, that he is also an experienced painter, with an excellent eye, and a great habit of measuring distances "at the end of of arms."

2) fall-winter 1954: 4 WITNESSES, in the TARENTAISE

This observation is absolutely unknown to the public, and unprecedented. Unfortunately, the exact date is missing.

It is 6 p.m. Four senior officials from the Savoie direction of the PTT [national phone and mail service] are returning from a mission in the Tarentaise, and are traveling on the Bourg St Maurice-Chambéry road.

Arrived at the city of Landry (approximately 6 km from Bourg St Maurice), their attention is attracted by a luminous object moving at lightning speed. The driver stops the vehicle, and everyone watches.

The observation "lasts a maximum of ten seconds".

This object, resembling "a cigar or a saucer seen in profile" ("larger than an airplane in size") was very luminous and crossed the valley perpendicularly, from NW towards the South East (and therefore at an altitude necessarily higher than 2500 m).

It was of a red-orange color on the back (pure orange from the Pantone color chart) and an emerald green on the front (333 from the color chart).

Its dimension: 3 cm at arm's length (which corresponds to a dimension of a hundred meters minimum).

"We were amazed and fascinated (...) "it couldn't be a rocket, it didn't exist at the time!".

NOTE: the witnesses are absolutely trustworthy; the one we were able to interview and whom we have known for a long time holds high political office; moreover, an experienced painter, he has an excellent eye, and a great habit of measuring distances "at arm's length".
