Summary:

In the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nui No. 123 of March 1973, Mr. Wambeke, investigative ufologist, reported having collected the following testimony:

In August or September 1954, at about one year of approximation, at about 6:30 p.m., in Villers-Guislain, near Cambrai in the Nord department, the then 12-year-old witness was alone in the village square, when his attention was attracted by a sound of air flow.

He looked for the source of the sound and saw above the houses surrounding the square, a large object of orange-red color, followed by a trail of the same color, which quickly passed through the sky and disappeared from view behind the roofs.

The trajectory was from north-west to southeast and the apparent size was equivalent to 10 centimeters seen at arm's length. The shape was elliptical, the distance and the height were estimated at a hundred meters.

The witness who at the time of this testimony was a police officer wanted to remain anonymous, and said that many people had noticed the phenomenon and that there had been articles in the local newspapers.

Mr. Wambeke, investigator, reported in the magazine this retro-testimony that he collected:

In August or September 1954, more or less one year, towards 06:30 P.M., in Villers-Guislain, district of Cambrai in the department of Nord, the witness who was 12 years old was alone on the village's square. His attention was drawn by a noise of air displacement. He looked for a source of the airflow and saw an object of big size and of orange red color, followed by a trail of the same color, above the houses surrounding the place, and quickly crossing the sky to disappear from his sight behind the roofs.

The trajectory went from the north-west to the south-east and the apparent dimension was equivalent to 10 centimeters at arm's length. The shape was elliptic, the distance and the height was estimated as a hundred meters.

The witness who at the time of the reporting had become a police officer and wished to remain anonymous indicated that many people had seen the phenomenon and that there had been articles in the local newspapers.

August or Sept. 1954 - VILLERS-GUISLAIN Type IV

His attention attracted by the sound of moving air, a child saw above the houses a large object of red-orange color followed by a trail of the same color, quickly passing over the sky. Elliptical in shape, it measured about 10 cm at arm's length, the height and distance being estimated at a hundred meters. (LDLN 123 p 15)

[Ref. jdt1:] JEAN-PIERRE D'HONDT:

This ufologist notes that in August or September 1954, at approximately 06:30 p.m. in Villers-Guislain in the North, according to LDLN 123, a person currently senior police officer and wishing to keep the anonymity, who was aged 12 then and was alone on the village square, had his attention drawn by a noise of air volume displacement.

By looking for the source of the noise the boy saw above the houses surrounding the square, an object of big size and orange red color followed by a trail of the same color, which passed quickly in the sky and disappeared from his sight behind the roofs, having wollowed a NW-SE trajectory.

The approximate dimension of the object was 10 centimeters at arm's length, its shape elliptic, its distance and its height estimated as a hundred meters.

There would have been at the times articles in the local newspapers and much of people would have seen the phenomenon.

Explanations:

Map.

If there was had been no air movement noise, it would have been a probable meteor. But meteors arrive at hypersonic speeds, so they are not heard before being seen, in principle.

It could also have been a helicopter. But if there were been a lot testimonies in newspapers, it is not very likely.

The explanation is not assured, not more than the year, 1954; which might have been just ascribed because of the 1954 wave.
