Pionnering ufologist Aimé Michel indicated in his 1958 book on the 1954 French flap that on October 9, 1954, a few minutes after 9:20 p.m., near Dreux, hunters returning home had seen in the countryside a vaguely luminous mass which had flown away on their approach and had disappeared towards the Southwest.
Michel considered the case to be part of an "alignment" of sightings on October 9, 1954; which he believed could not have been due to mere chance. He gave no source for this sighting.
In his 1961 catalog, Guy Quincy reportedly noted that on October 9, 1954, in Dreux, people hunting saw a luminous sphere which took off from the ground, took height, and flew away in the Southwest direction.
This meager report will be repeated many times without more information and no contemporary source.
