Summary:

Pionnering ufologist Aimé Michel indicated in his 1958 book on the 1954 French flap that on October 9, 1954, a few minutes after 9:20 p.m., near Dreux, hunters returning home had seen in the countryside a vaguely luminous mass which had flown away on their approach and had disappeared towards the Southwest.

Michel considered the case to be part of an "alignment" of sightings on October 9, 1954; which he believed could not have been due to mere chance. He gave no source for this sighting.

In his 1961 catalog, Guy Quincy reportedly noted that on October 9, 1954, in Dreux, people hunting saw a luminous sphere which took off from the ground, took height, and flew away in the Southwest direction.

This meager report will be repeated many times without more information and no contemporary source.

215) October 9, 1954, Dreux (France):

People hunting saw a luminous sphere which took off from the ground, rose in height and flew away towards S-W (Quincy, M. 153).

The catalog from which this entry comes is preceded by this warning, in a previous issue, by Jacques Vallée:

We do not believe that we have to apologize for the inclusion of testimonies which may justifiably appear incredible or grotesque. We do not claim that there exists in this Catalog a single observation of a physical event of an unknown nature.

We are not publishing a table of experimental results obtained in the laboratory, but only a general guide to facilitate the study of the abundant literature which has accumulated on an astonishing topic.

It would therefore be dishonest and a serious misunderstanding of our design, to treat all the cases of this catalog as if they had the same level of validity, or to affirm that the presence of this or that particular case reinforces or destroys by itself the degree of confidence that one can place in another case. WE CANNOT ACCEPT LIABILITY FOR ERRORS FROM THOSE WHO IGNORE THIS WARNING.

The author indicates that on October 9, 1954, people who were hunting in the vicinity of Dreux saw a luminous sphere which flew away and towards south-west.
