The local weekly newspaper Le Semeur, from the Puy-de-Dôme, reported on page 2 on January 17, 1954, that on January 9, 1954 at 9:30 p.m., a meteor had crossed the sky of Clermont-Ferrand, seeming to move at very slow speed, leaving behind a long trail of fire, and that many inhabitants of La Plaine had had time to see it.
It does not seem there was any interpretation of this event as a "saucer" or UFO.
