Summary:

In the 1950s, a French archivist, Guy Quincy, interested in the question of the "flying saucers", compiled a catalog of observations.

He noted in it an observation of October 4, 1954 at 6:15 p.m. in Orléeans in the Loiret in France; without further details or sources.

I eventually found that Quincy must have come across this in the readers' letters section of the magazine Radar of October 31, 1954. Among excerpts of letters from people expressing their opinions on what "flying saucers" might be, there was a letter from an anonymous reader from Orléans, who claimed they were terrestrial military craft, hostile, not craft coming from another planet. He stated that he was convinced of the existence of the "flying saucers," because, he wrote, he had seen one fly over the city on October 4, around 6:15 p.m.

Clearly established military destinies...

An anonymous reader from Orléans, who himself saw a flying saucer fly over the city on October 4, around 6:15 p.m., disagrees: The flying saucer is not an interstellar craft, and the intentions of its passengers are not as peaceful as certain theologians in Rome would have us believe.

"...In all your articles, he writes to us, you let it be assumed that flying saucers can only come from another planet. You have never suggested the idea that this craft might perhaps be built by a terrestrial nation. This way of acting can only increase the state of unease that is harmful to the moral health of the country...

"For me, the existence of saucers is undeniable, since with my own eyes I have had proof of it...

"I believe their military purpose is blatantly obvious. Moreover, why would this enormous craft, with unsuspected power that I believe to be the complement of the atomic bomb, hide itself with such persistence?

"A day will come when everyone will be forced to recognize the existence of flying saucers, just as a day will come when everyone will tremble under the flying saucers, imagining them silent and motionless above our heads, by day as well as by night...".
