In his 1997 book on the 1954 French wave, ufologist and author Jean Sider reports that according to an article in the newspaper La Nouvelle République de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest of October 8, 1954, on "Monday", therefore on October 4, 1954, in the evening, in Irleau in the Deux-Sèvres department, Mr. Naudin, worker in Niort, saw a round and fairly large craft on the ground. When he approached, the craft left without noise first in height then in the direction of La Rochelle. The newspaper specified that another cyclist and two pedestrians in Irleau saw the same phenomenon, says Jean Sider.

Luc Chastan notes in his database that in the Deux Sèvres in Irleau on October 4, 1954 at an unknown hour, in the evening, "a witness observes a round and rather bulky object posed on the ground. When he tried to approach the object rose without noise in height then took the direction of La Rochelle. Three other witnesses are said to have also seen the phenomenon."
Luc Chastan indicates as source: "Lumières dans la Nuit".

The rather imprecise account does not allow us to know whether Mr. Naudin was in Niort or in Irleau, if the two other people really observed the same phenomenon or not.
The starting direction is in any case towards La Rochelle so around 250°:
At 6 p.m. the sun is low in that direction. Around 7 p.m., night falls, and around 230 - 250° Venus is setting, passing below the horizon at 06:38 p.m. at 235°. At 10 p.m., the Moon descends towards 230°, it sets around 10:38 p.m. at 235°. We now get at this time Mars around 220°, which sets around 11:30 p.m. at about 234°. Then there are unremarkable stars.
There are therefore many astronomical objects, but none of them goes up "from the ground" to "ascend".
The lack of information is such that nothing more can be said, I think.
