Summary:

In the ufology magazine Lumièrs Dans La Nuit #319 of July 1993, then in his 1997 book, ufologist Jean Sider declared that an observation had taken place on October 3, 1954, in Le Pertre, in the Ille-et-Vilaine department, reported by the newspaper Les Nouvelles de Bretagnes et du Maine of Rennes, on page 4 fir October 7, 1954:

At 08:00 p.m. at Le Pertre and Argenté-du-Plessis, two farmers, Auguste Alliaume and Alfred Départ, residing in La Brosse, municipality of La Gravelle, had twice seen an oval shaped craft moving rapidly and without noise at about 300 meters of height. The "craft" was very bright and red-orange in color, and it disappeared quite quickly.

The witnesses had the impression that the object landed at a very close distance, towards the southwest, probably above the communes of Le Pertre or Argenté-du-Plessis.

Reports:

[Ref. ldl1:] "LUMIERES DANS LA NUIT" UFOLOGY MAGAZINE:

On October 3, 1954, at 08:00 p.m., between Le Pertre and Argentré-du-Plessis, in the area of Vitré in the département of Ille-et-Vilaine, a fast evolving oval luminous craft evolved has been briefly observed. It was at an approximate altitude of 300 meters and then seemed to land.

[Ref. jsr1:] JEAN SIDER:

French ufologist and author Jean Sider learned in an article from the newspaper "Les Nouvelles de Bretagne et du Maine", of Rennes, page 4, October 7, 1954, that on October 3 and October 4 at 08:00 p.m. in Le Pertre and Argentré-du-Plessis in the depatrment of Ille-et-Vilaine, two farmers, Auguste Alliaume and Alfred Départ, resident at La Brosse, commune of La Gravelle, saw twice a quickly moving machine of oval shape and silent at 300 meters of height approximately. The machine was very luminous and of red-orange color, and it disappeared rather quickly. The witnesses had the impression that the object landed at a very close distance, in the direction of south-west, probably above the communes of Le Pertre and Argentré-du-Plessis.

Luc Chastan indicates that in the Ille et Vilaine in Le Pertre on October 3, 1954, at 20:00 hours between Le Pertre and Argentré-of-Plessis, an oval luminous machine evolving quickly was briefly observed going towards the South-west. It was approximately 300 meters height and then seemed to land.

[Ref. uda1:] "UFODNA" WEBSITE:

The website indicates that on 3 October 1954 at 20:00, in Le Pertre, France, there was a "Farmers incident": "Silent orange ovoid flies at 300m altitude. Possible landing. to the southwest An unidentified object was sighted, that had an unusual appearance or performance. One orange ovoid object was observed by two witnesses on a farm. No sound was heard."

The source is indicated as Hatch, Larry, *U* computer database, Author, Redwood City, 2002.

Explanations:

Map.

An issue is that there are several places called "La Brosse" in the area:

So we need to rely on the direction indicated by the newspsaper: the "craft" appeared to "land" in the Southwest.

On that date at 8 p.m. from this area, the Moon was at azimut 209° 54' - the Southwest - and the levation of 10° 45', it was "cresecnt-shaped with 36.2 % of its surface lighted by the Sun.

Mars was at azimut 184° 28' - almost due South - elevation 16° 43'.

So, this might have been a red Moon, probably partly concealed by clouds..
