The anonymous author of the website Touraine Insolite mentionned in the 2000s that on Thursday September 30, 1954, on the town of Chambray-Les-Tours, Mr. René Foubert and his wife had according to their declaration "clearly seen around 08:00 p.m. in the sky in the direction of the Southwest a disc of red color which rose and fell above the town", while the meteorological station of Saint-Symphorien specified that no luminous phenomenon of this kind had been seen, and that a release of weather balloons with a small hanging light had taken place around 02:00 in the morning, but that the released luminosity was far from matching what was described by the couple.
The source was given as the newspaper Nouvelle République du Centre-Ouest for October 2, 1954.

The weather station of St Symphorien did specify that no luminous phenomenon of this kind had been seen, and that a release of sounding-balloons with a small hung light had taken place towards 02:00 of the morning, but that the released luminosity is far from matching what is described by the couple.

[Ref. jqy1:] JEAN DE QUERCY:
At 8 p.m., two witnesses observed from the town of Chambray-les-Tours a red disc heading south-west. The machine descended above the village. The newspaper indicates that around 2 a.m. the station of St Symphorien (meteorology) had released sounding balloons equipped with a small light but that the descriptions did not correspond, the light released was far from what was described by the two witnesses.

From this place and at this date, the Moon set at 07:43 p.m. at 241°, ie towards the South-West. It is perhaps the explanation since "around 8 p.m." it was low, and therefore a "red moon" is possible. The indication that the phenomenon "went up and went down above the city" would seem to exclude it, but there is the possibility that the two witnesses were in a car, and the surrounding terrain being sometimes hilly could have created this effect.
Venus was right next to the Moon, but the red color doesn't match.
Mars, often described as "red", was in the sky at 8 p.m., 184°, 18° elevation, ie due South, not to the Southwest.
