Summary:

Many French newspapers for October 1, 1954, had reported in the same manner, among other observations, that in the Pyrenees-Orientales, "a truck driver, who collected milk near Cabestany", had seen, in fromt of his truck, a "shiny globe", bluish in color, "which moved at an altitude of about 15 meters, producing a very soft humming sound."

The driver had stopped his truck and was able to "observe the moves of the craft for almost a quarter of an hour, then suddenly it reportedly rose in the sky and disappeared in the direction of the sea."

The Press apparantly gave no date, but ufologist Aimé Michel said it was on September 29, 1954.

The (daily) column
"flying saucers"

The "flying saucers" are definitely "popular". The hunting table of the day yesterday is particularly fruitful. Let us judge:

Around Cabestany (Pyrénées-Orientales), a truck driver, who collected the milk, said he saw in front of his vehicle "a brilliant globe" of bluish color, "which was flying at an altitude of about 150 meters, producing a very soft hum."

Having stopped his truck, the driver was able to observe the movements of the craft for nearly a quarter of an hour. Then, suddenly, it reportedly rose in the sky and disappeared towards the sea.

In Augé (Deux-Sèvres), a flying saucer was reportedly seen.

Also, Mr. Picaud, director of a brewery in Sainte-Pozenne, said he saw, for a few minutes, while driving on the road to Fontenay-le-Comte, a weird sparkling yellow disc.

In Landeda and Aberwrac'h (Finistère), the residents saw, Wednesday evening, at high altitude, a circular craft resembling a "flying saucer."

In Rebais (Seine-et-Marne), several residents stated they saw a strange apparatus, very shining, flying at nightfall in the sky.

Witnesses specified that the craft, which was traveling very slowly, then headed towards Coulommiers, after increasing its speed, and disappeared.

In Montpellier, Mrs Picot, of la Baume, stated she saw, at an altitude of about 1,500 meters, a craft in the shape of a cigar, brilliant and which seemed surrounded by a halo. The craft, which she could observe for about a minute, suddenly disappeared in an easterly direction, without making any noise and without leaving any traces.

IN MOROCCO AND ALGERIA

Trustworthy witnesses saw, Wednesday evening, in the sky of Kourigra, a locality located about 130 kilometers from Casablanca, a circular craft, red in color, moving at a high altitude.

and at a very high speed and which seemed to spit out flames of a blue green color.

Also, a craft of elongated shape was, still Wednesday evening, around 8:30 p.m., seen in the sky of Safi, by reliable witnesses. The "cigar" was moving at great speed from east to northwest. It was surrounded by a bluish light and left behind a luminous trail. Witnesses claimed that this craft had nothing to do with a jet plane.

... AND IN DENMARK

Many residents of the town of Strib (Funen) claim to have seen "a yellow-reddish craft", the shape of which was reminiscent of a cigar, moving at high altitude and leaving behind "tongues of fire." Other "luminous craft" have been seen over the last three evenings in Funen and Sweden.

AND HERE ARE THE
... ANTICOMMUNISTS "SAUCERS"!

Vienna, 30 (A.F.P.). -- "Flying saucers" regularly reported for some time in Austria are, according to the "Bild Telegraf", remote-controlled vehicles used by certain powers to drop anti-Communist leaflets over Czechoslovakia!

This newspaper reports that leaflets written in the Czech language were found near Efferding, in Upper Austria (Soviet zone), after the passage of two "luminous discs" whose maneuvers were observed by two gendarmes of a neighboring town.

These leaflets, distributed by a group of emigrants belonging to the "Czechoslovak opposition" movement, invite the peasants of Czechoslovakia to leave agricultural communities and state cooperatives.

Two other dailies also mention the testimony of several peasants who claim to have seen a "saucer" caught by the beam of a Soviet AA searchlight.

Saucers here, cigars there, blue, red, green, depending on the region

Mysterious flying machines multiply

The waltz of flying saucers continues to grow. But it must be observed that according to the regions where they are seen, according to the observational capacity of the witnesses of their evolutions, they affect the form of disk, globe or cigar, and are sometimes red, sometimes bluish. Finally, in Czechoslovakia, they have the particularity of releasing anti-communist leaflets. Here are the regions where they have been reported in the last 24 hours:

- In the Pyrenees-Orientales, a truck driver, who was collecting milk in the vicinity of Cabestany, saw in front of his vehicle a "bluish globe", bluish-colored "which evolved at an altitude of about 15 meters, Producing a very soft hum ".

Having stopped his truck, the driver was able to observe the evolutions of the craft for almost a quarter of an hour, then suddenly it would have risen in the sky and disappeared in direction of the sea.

- In the Deux-Sèvres, a "sparkling yellow disk" was observed at Auge, in Sainte-Pozenne and in Fontenay-le-Comte.

- In Finistère, the inhabitants of Landeda and the Aber-wrac saw, at high altitude, a machine of circular shape "resembling a saucer".

- Near Montpellier, Mrs Picot de La Baume stated that at an altitude of about 1,500 meters she saw a cigar-shaped device, shiny, which seemed to be surrounded by a halo. The machine, which she could observe for a minute or so, suddenly disappeared in an easterly direction, without making a sound or leaving a trace.

- Near Melun, several inhabitants of the commune of Rebais saw a strange machine, very bright, circulating at night fell in the sky. They pointed out that the apparatus which circulated very slowly had then turned towards Coulommiers, having increased its speed, and had disappeared. C.R.S. also saw a luminous disc in the sky, above Vaudoy.

Red in Kourigra
Blue in Safi

- In Morocco, credible witnesses saw in the sky of Kourigra, about 130 kilometers from Casablanca, a machine of circular shape, red in color, evolving at a high altitude and at a high speed, and which seemed to spit out Flames of a blue-green color.

Near Safi, on the other hand, the device had the shape of a cigar, moved at high speed, was surrounded by a bluish light and left behind a luminous trail.

Anti-collectivist saucers

Finally, the "flying saucers" reported regularly for some time in Austria, according to the "Bild Telegraf" in Vienna, are guided missiles used to drop anti-communist leaflets over Czechoslovakia.

The newspaper reported that leaflets written in the Czech language were found near Efferding in Upper Austria (Soviet zone), after the passage of two "luminous discs", the changes of which were observed by two gendarmes of a locality neighbor. These leaflets, circulated by a group of emigrants belonging to the "Czechoslovak Opposition" movement, invite the peasants of Czechoslovakia to leave agricultural collectivities and state cooperatives.

Two other dailies also mention the testimony of several peasants who claim to have seen a "saucer" caught in the beam of a Soviet D.C.A. searchlight.

"SAUCERS" ALL AROUND THE SKY

For a few days, testimonys of people claimimg to have seen mysterious luminous objects in the sky have arrived from all the corners of France.

If all these testimonys agree on the shape of "saucer" of the craft, they do not always agree on their color.

In Cabestang (Eastern Pyrenees), a truck driver, which carried out the collecting of milk on Wednesday, around 6 o'clock, stated to have seen in front of his vehicle a "shining sphere", of blue color, "which evolved at an altitude of approximately 150 meters while producing a very soft buzz". Having stopped its truck, the driver could observe the evolutions of the machine during nearly a quarter of hour then, suddenly, it is said to have risen in the sky and to have disappeared in the direction of the sea.

FESTIVAL
Of flying saucers
IN THE SKY OF PAU

Since the time that in all four corners of France and around the world there were flying "saucers" and other "cigars", the residents of Pau began to be vexed with the systematic disdain in which these "interplanetary visitors" held them.

They had their festival yesterday. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., it was in the blue azure sky, a veritable carousel of luminous spots, immediately called "flying saucers". If it were necessary to gather all the testimonies of this "visiting" day, the newspaper would not suffice. We shall therefore restrain ourselves to the statements of a few persons who - they claim at least - have seen these devices distinctly. They were more favored than the multitude, thanks to binoculars they kept aimed at the sky, without fear of torticollis, part of the day.

At 10 o'clock it was a milky white disk with a red bulge in its center, that carried out a rapid patrol at an altitude of some 10,000 meters. At noon the invasion began. A white, very luminous oval form appeared, preceding by half an hour four or five other discs scattered at the four corners of the sky.

Around 1 o'clock, the oval object, without shame, turned to the red, then went away as it had come. It nevertheless left in the firmament enough to occupy a good part of the afternoon of the residents of Pau.

Until four o'clock, with the nose in the air, the finger extended, luminous spots movind slowly and sometimes motionless for several minutes. You had to have goodwill and an excellent view to get into the game. But when you had finally spotted the object, you felt like an "initiate" in the mystery of the beyond and you were satisfied until being dazzled.

Things were somewhat complicated by the fact that at the beginning of the afternoon a shopkeeper had the unfortunate idea of releasing a few child balloons.

For a few moments there was a plethora of saucers in the sky of Pau. The life of the city was literally stopped. Frozen in the middle of the streets, hundreds of residents of Pau miraculously avoided crushing. And if they saw nothing, they had at least the advantage of having half an hour of excellent physical training. There were many last night who complained about aches!

What were these mysterious objects? No one will ever know. In any case, one of the witnesses, the most convincing and the most convinced, gave us a description in his own way of what he had seen, a description which gives shape to these mysterious luminous spots. "It was like an orange ball in the center," he said. "All around, it turned like a flywheel, a luminous disc." The report may seem fanciful, but given the power of the means used for observation, it almost convinced us. Indeed, the man woned monstrous marine binoculars, a memory of distant lands, as powerful and heavy as a

A "blue globe, shining and purring" in Perpignan

A flying saucer would have been seen in Auge (Deux-Sèvres).

On the other hand, M. Picaud, the manager of a brewery in Sainte-Pozenne, said he had seen for a few minutes, while traveling along the road to Fontenay-le-Comte, a curious disc of a sparkling yellow.

In Haute-Marne a brilliant machine

Several inhabitants of the commune of Rebais declared to have seen a strange, very brilliant machine, circulating at night fall in the sky, above Rebais.

The witnesses said that the apparatus, which was traveling very slowly, had then headed towards Coulommiers after increasing its speed, and had disappeared.

telescope, and which ensured him as much success as the "saucers" won.

Many of our fellow citizens believed and still believe that it was a launch of soundingballoons. Information taken at the Center of the Weather of Pont-Long, the only one qualified for these operations, a single balloon was launched during the day, at 3 p.m.. So it was not this that was seen in the morning nor in the afternoon because, we were told at Pont-Long, such a balloon climbs quickly up to 15,000 meters and explodes. It can only be distinguished to 3,500 m.

But then, were they really flying saucers?

at an altitude of about 4,500 meters, saw a cigar-shaped device, shiny, which seemed to be surrounded by a halo. The machine, which she could observe for a minute or so, suddenly disappeared in an easterly direction, without making a noise or leaving any traces.

Morocco and Algeria were also visited...

Reliable witnesses saw last night in the sky of Kounigra, a town about 130 kilometers from Casablanca, a red-shaped, circular-shaped craft evolving at a high altitude and apparently spitting flames of a blue green color.

An elongated craft was seen Wednesday evening around 8:30 p.m. in the sky of Safi by credible witnesses. The "cigar" was moving at a high speed, from East to Northwest. It was surrounded by a bluish light and left behind a luminous trail. The witnesses testified that the craft was unrelated to a jet plane.

... as well as Denmark

Many residents of the town of Strib (Funen) claim to have seen yesterday "a yellow-reddish craft whose shape resembled a cigar operating at high altitude and leaving "tongues of fire" behind. Other luminous craft had been seen in the last three days in Funen and Sweden.

The Hague, 30. -- A resident of Schiedam (a large juniper production center) claimed to have seen a fairly large, circular and luminous object moving west. His fiancée who accompanied him corroborated his statements.

Less recent but more impressive, is the account of the captain of the "Groote Beer", Mr. J.-P. Boshoff, of the Holland - United States line.

The object detected in the open sea and observed by himself and these five officers using all the optical equipment on board, was "the size of a half moon" and also circular and bright.

The captain formally excluded the possibility that it may be a weather balloon.

At first motionless, the disc moved, after a few moments, to the west to disappear behind the clouds at an altitude of around 14,000 meters.

"Saucers" have been seen in Auge (Deux-Sèvres), near Brest, in the Seine-et-Marne (the craft was heading towards Coulommiers) and a "cigar" was observed in Montpellier.

Also, cigars and saucers are reported in Algeria, Morocco and Denmark the cigar left behind "tongues of fire."

IN PERPIGNAN
AND NEAR MELUN

Among the latest testimonies collected in France, let us remember that of a truck driver, who carried out, on Wednesday morning, the collection of milk around Cabestany (Pyrénées-Orientales). He said he saw, in front of his vehicle, "a shining globe", bluish in color "which was moving at an altitude of 150 meters, producing a very soft hum."

Having stopped his truck, the driver was able to observe the movements of the craft for nearly a quarter of an hour then, suddenly, it reportedly rose in the sky and disappeared towards the sea.

In the Seine-et-Marne, several residents of the town of Rebais stated they saw a strange, very bright machine circulating at nightfall, Wednesday, in the sky.

The witnesses specified that the craft, which flew very slowly, then headed towards Coulommiers, after increasing its speed, and disappeared.

On Monday morning, C.R.S. personal also saw a luminous disc in the sky above Vaudoy.

He was surrounded by a bluish light and left behind a luminous trail. Witnesses testified that the aircraft was unrelated to a jet plane [but may have had a "relationship" with a meteor.]

Saint Brieuc. -- Several people said they saw 300 or 400 meters from them last night, around 8 pm. 45, a "flying cigar" at an altitude of about 50 meters. The machine, they said, could be 13 meters in length and lit up intermittently with pink gleams. He moved noiselessly.

The young man had time to call his mother, who could also see the phenomenon.

Two young Dolois have seen twice "saucers"

Dole (C.P.). -- The two young Dolois, Jacky Chapoutot and André Lacour, who "saw a flying saucer" last week in Dole, noticed the same phenomenon Wednesday, around 8 pm, while they were at two different points of the city.

"I did not believe in flying saucers," Jacky Chapoutot told us, "but this time I'm sure of what I saw, and I'm particularly interested in aviation and what was going on in the sky of Dole was moving at a speed that certainly is not yet achieved in the machines we know. I must add to be complete, that last week, as this time I heard, when this saucer appeared, an airplane hum that seemed to evolve without navigation lights."

Aimé Michel mentions that on September 29, 1954, there was an observation - on which he gives no details - in "Cabestany, near Perpignan" according to the newspaper Combat for October 1, 1954.

He ensures that this observation is "aligned" with those of Rebais and Langeron bothe in the Nièvre, forming a 686 kilometers long "alignment".

[Note: as the Rebais observation did not take place on September 19, 1954, but on September 22, 1954, his "alignment" has only two spots...]

Montagney, France. 8:00 p.m. September 29th.

A huge, bright object that rivaled the full moon in size lit up the countryside around the French village of Montagney at 8:00 p.m. The object soared east to west much slower than a meteor because a resident of the village that witnessed the appearance was able to alert others to the phenomenon, and more importantly, the brillant object flew out of sight under the clouds.

A motorist, Mr. Gazon, on Route N 486 to the southwest of Montagney, was driving passed the community of Rigney when he caught sight of the UFO. He said it was an oblong object on a horizontal course, giving off a green white light.

Elsewhere in the area, a motorcyclist speeding along Route N-470 near Painblanc observed the passage of a green-white body, apparently the same object.

Some 70 miles beyond Painblanc at Langeron another sighting was made. Riding a bicycle on Route N-151 a M. Raymond Deloire spotted an object in the sky approaching him from the west. It was a luminous, hemispherical shape, orange in color instead of green-white. It travelled silently.

Other French towns reporting UFOs on the 29th were: Landeda-L'Aber Wrac'h in the French department of Finistere in Brittany, and Cabestany in the French department of Pyrenees Orientas [sic] which is near Spain. 154.

Explanations:

Map.

The date seems to be a guess: it was reported on September 30, 1954, Aimé Michel likely decided it must thus have occirred the day before; which is plausible but not certain.

In only see three possible explanations:

  1. An extraterrestrial craft.
  2. An invention by the witness.
  3. A helicopter.

A meteor, for example, would be excluded by the duration of about 15 minutes of the sighting - if the newspapers report is correct.

The bottomline is, I do not have enough information for now to be more in the affirmative.
