French journalist and pioneer ufologist Charles Garreau wrote that in the Côte-d'Or, in Saint-Maurice-sur-Vingeanne, on January 26, 1954, at 04:50 a.m., there was an observation of a very bright object "flying" to the northeast.
He, like others later, had not realized that it was the meteor that had flown over the Côte-d'Or and the Vosges at that time.

Around 4:50, several people saw in the sky a lightning trail that moved noiselessly over the city.
Duration: a few seconds and low altitude. Observed in numerous places in the Côte d'Or: Pontailler, Saulon la Chapelle, Til Châtel, St Maurice sur Vingeanne and Nuits st Georges.

Luc Chastan indicates that in the "Côte d'or" in St Maurice sur Vingeanne on January 26, 1954 at 04:50 there was an "Observation of a very luminous object flying towards the Northeast."
