In 2019, I found a Website by one Jacques Schweitzer, resident of the Aube department, who wrote articles about events in this department.
One of his articles was about the UFO sightings in the Aube, and one of the cases was that of July 25, 1954, at 9:23 p.m., in Troyes, where "a hosiery engineer" would have seen a white ball moving from North-East to South-West; which he reportedly described as follows:
"It's like a big flattened apple, followed by a very light cloud of light. Its speed exceeds 10,000 km per hour."
[Ref. jcr1:] JACQUES SCHWEITZER:
On July 25, 1954, at 9:23 p.m., in Troyes, a bonnet engineer claims to see a white ball that moves from N-E to S-W : « it's like a big flat apple, followed of a very slights luminous cloud. Its speed exceeds 10,000 km / hour."
[jcr1] did not indicate a source for this report which seems to be missing in the ufology litterature; I guess it comes from some local Press source.
The phenomenon's description makes me guess it was probably just a meteor.
