In their local edition of Maubeuge, the regional newspaper Nord-Matin for October 24, 1954, reported that the chief mailman of their town, Mr. Arthur Bury, living on rue de la Providence, reportedly saw "Wednesday" - therefore on October 20, 1954 - around 9:55 p.m., for only a few seconds, an illuminated mass moving towards the Northeast at breakneck speed.
The newspaper wondered if it was a "saucer."
The same information was also published in the regional newsaper La Voix du Nord, local issue of Avesnes for the same October 24, 1954.
