The regional newspapers La Voix du Nord for November 2, 1954, and Le Nouveau Nord Maritime for November 3, 1954, published that "Monday" - therefore on November 1, 1954 - around 06:30 p.m., several members of the crew of the pilot boat of the station of Calais had seen, at a very great height, a kind of flying cigar coming from the East and heading on the sea towards the Northwest: "The craft emitted a dazzling glow at the rear, difficult to follow on the telescope."
