The regional newspaper L'Union of Reims reported on October 19, 1954, that a "luminous craft" had been seen in the sky over Romilly-sur-Seine on October 16, 1954, around 9:30 p.m., by about ten people living on Rue Henri-Millet and Rue Gabriel-Péry.
It was a luminous sphere which, after remaining stationary for a few moments, then "disappeared" in the direction of the west at a vertiginous speed, leaving behind it a long white trail.

Last Saturday, around 9:30 p.m., about ten people living on Rue Henri-Millet and Rue Gabriel-Péry saw a luminous sphere in the sky which, after remaining motionless for a few moments, disappeared toward the west at a dizzying speed, leaving behind it a long white trail.

Quite obviously, it was the famous large meteor widely seen that day at 9:30 p.m.
