The regional newspaper La Liberté de l'Est for October 20, 1954, reported that "Saturday" - thus in October 16, 1954 - around 9:00 p.m., a "red craft" crossed at high speed the sky of Racecourt. heading west. The newspaper reported that a farmer and his family had seen the phenomenon and stated that it was different from that produced by a shooting star and that the ball was larger than a soccer ball.
