The regional newspaper Le Provençal for October 15, 1954, had apparently reported that in Le Cheylard, in the Ardèche department, exactly at 06:03 p.m., Mr. Fort, newspapers depository man, had discerned in the Ardèche sky, a "luminous red disc moving at a fantastic pace", heading south.
A German ufology database on the Web gives the date as October 14, 1954.

I have very little doubts: this must have been the meteor of October 14, 1954, generally noted at 06:00 p.m. - 06:15 p.m., widely seen in the Rhone Valley that day.
