In their 1979 book "La Grande Peur Martienne" ("The Great Martian Scare"), the "skeptical" ufologists Gérard Barthel and Jacques Bruker indicated that there was an observation on October 14, 1954 at 6:30 (a.m. probably meant) in Cherré, whose two witnesses are dead.
All they added was that the Maine Libre newspaper of October 18th "talks about it."
[Ref. bbr1:] GERARD BARTHEL AND JACQUES BRUCKER:
The two authors note this case of October 14, 1954:
"Cherre - 72 - 6:30 [a.m..]: investigation. Two witnesses deceased. Note that the cases of Le Mans and Saint-Jean-d'Assé on the 7th can be very well integrated in this day. What would mean that a phenomenon was observed at 6:30 in this area."
Two pages further they indicate that the case could have been of the 7 since the newspaper "Maine Libre" for October 18 "talks about it, and that it is "certainly the testimony of an odd incident reported several times."

As opposed to what both "debunkers" Barthel and Brucker indicate, the case of Saint-Jean-d'Assé having been published in the national newspaper France-Soir for October 9, 1954, it could not have happened on October 14, 1954. It so happens that they argue again that it could have been on October 14, 1954, as in it mentioned in the newspaper "Maine Libre" for October 18, noting that it would be surprising that the newspaper had waited a week (actually more two weeks, from the 7th to the 18th) to publish it!
With regard to the case of Le Mans of October 7, 1954 at 06:30 that they would like to replace at October 14, 1954, the only mention of this case which I could find is their own book, page 195. Except indicating that their investigation led to note that the witness was untraceable, they give no information whatsoever on this case.
