October 13 to 14, 1954, Chury, Gironde:

Reference for this case: 13-Oct-54-Chury.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

In 1997, the author Jean Sider indicated that he learned from an article in the newspaper Le Résistant, of Libourne, for October 15, 1954, that during the night of October 13 to 14, 1954, one or more anonymous witnesses reportedly saw a saucer flying successively over two rugby grounds to finally land between the two, which made the dogs all around bark frantically.

Jean Sider remarked that the newspaper article was ironic and mocking; which diminished the credibility of the incident; which might at first sight seem to be a joke.

Reports:

[Ref. jsr1:] JEAN SIDER:

French ufologist and author Jean Sider learned in an article from the newspaper Le Résistant de Libourne for October 15, 1954, that in the night from October 13 to October 14 of 1954, one or more anonymous witnesses are said to have seen a saucer successively flying over two football fields for finally landing between the two, which made all the dogs of the neighborhood bark frantically.

Jean Sider makes the remark that the article of the newspaper has an ironic and mocking tone, which decreases the credibility of the incident, which may first of all appear to be a joke.

[Ref. jsr2:] JEAN SIDER:

French ufologist and author Jean Sider learned in an article from the newspaper La Resistance de Libourne, of Libourne, published on October 15, 1954, on page 4, that in the night from the 13th to 14th of October, 1954, in Chury, Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, the Gironde, a saucer was seen flying over the 15-player Rugby field of Mourenne, which would have caused the furious barking of the dogs of the vicinity.

It is said to have then flown over the other 13 players Rugby field, to finally land between the two on the side of Chury.

Jean Sider notes that the article is scoffing with an accent on the local competition between 15-player rugby and 13-player rugby games.

[Ref. mju1:] MICHEL JEANTHEAU:

[... other case... ] moreover, a local weekly under the title Le Résistant de Libourne, mentions in a somewhat mocking style a landing in this place of a "saucer", after having flown over two sports fields.

Explanations:

Map.

Whatever the tone of the newspaper, the incident is so poorly documented that I do not know what to make of it.

I can only say that on an aerial photograph, I see in 2019 one rugby field and two soccer fields in Chury.
