The French ufologist Jacques Vallée indicated in his 1966 book "Les Phénomènes Insolites de l'Espace" that on August 11, 1954, there had already been four sightings, including one in Remiremont.
He gave neither source nor details.

This database recorded this case twice:

As opposed to what is claimed in [djn1], Vallée does not indicate any source.
The story of the spinning compass is obviously another case.
It is possible that Vallée gave a false date and that it is the case of August 8, 1954 in Remiremont, probably a meteor.
(These keywords are only to help queries and are not implying anything.)
Remiremont, Vosges, compass, effects
