Summary:

In a general catalog of observations of the Gironde written by the Bordeaux section of the CFRU, published in the ufology magazine Ouranos in the fourth quarter of 1973, it is said that according to the newspaper Sud-Ouest for September 14, 16, 17, 18 and 25, 1954, the following observation took place:

On September 10, 1954, at 08:40 p.m. in Bordeaux, dozens of witnesses in and around the suburbs of Bordeaux saw a machine in the shape of a fireworks rocket, with a rounded front ending in a cone of white lights, heading northwest or north-northwest.

At a given moment, a red circular glow was detached by turning from behind, then the whole was scattered without leaving any traces.

The same phenomenon was seen in Saint-Sulpice de Pommiers near Sauveterre de Guyenne.

The duration was about 20 seconds; the catalog indicates: "Meteorite not excluded."

Witnesses: several dozen located in the suburbs of Bordeaux. Craft evoking a fireworks rocket, the rounded front ending in a cone of white fire, heading towards the NW or the NNW. Same phenomenon seen at St-Sulpice de Pommiers near Sauveterre de Guyenne.

Duration: approximately 20 seconds. Meteorite not excluded.

(S.O. for September 14/15/16/17/18 and September 25, 1954)

Note: "HA" stands for "High Altitude"; "V 2" stands for "bad observations", a report for which it is difficult to rule out a misinterpretation.

[Ref. fru1] MICHEL FIGUET AND JEAN-LOUIS RUCHON:

The two authors note that on September 10, 1954 there was a sighting in Bordeaux at 08:40 p.m., according to Aimé Michel in "A Propos des S.V."

Explanations:

Map.

Probable meteor.

The CFRU wrote "meteorite"; but this word is supposed to refer to the remnants of meteors that fall to the ground; which does not happen often because most of the time the stone is consumed in the atmosphere and nothing falls to the ground except the resulting dust. There is no mention of the slightest recovery, so it is appropriate to note a "meteor", not a "meteorite."
