In a catalog of observations in the Drôme and Ardèche department, the U.F.O. Informations, of the Association des Amis de Marc Thirouin (AAMT), 4th quarter 1981, indicated an observation of Saturday, October 10, 1954, at noon in Valence in the Drôme.
For several minutes, many passers-by and motorists had observed a shining sphere "shining metallic", moving at high altitude, slowly. It was very visible and the phenomenon posed "a serious problem for the traffic police".
The bulletin indicates that the source is the archive of the AAMT.

Marc Thirouin was a pioneer of French ufology.
As for the observation, I do not see what will differentiate this thing from a balloon.
